We’re imagining the way forward, designing the future, making things happen and running the show.

About us

Turner Works is a new kind of architecture studio. We’ve grappled with shipping containers, car parks and old agricultural buildings. We’ve built spaces and places from scratch. Every project has brought us together with like-minded organisations, enterprising local people, and partners who share our imagination, determination and ambition. So much has come out of each one: places with a new purpose, communities with a new heart, creativity with a new backdrop. → What we do: Imagine the way forward… We develop business plans, feasibility studies, strategies and master plans. We identify opportunities. We rethink spaces and places. Design the future… We sketch, draw and make models. We create buildings to live in, work in and learn in. We map out spaces and places. Make things happen… We take simple things and put them together in interesting ways. We build, manage and deliver. We get our hands dirty. Run the show… We take charge. We organise events and spaces. We drive everything forward. We generate interest, energy and goodwill. → How we work: We've embraced those four words - imagining, designing, making, running - to give you a sense of who we are and how we work. We know that identities are all in the mind and that boundaries are there to be blurred. It’s not always about permanence, solid walls and big ideas, though we like those things too. Scraps of space are full of possibility, and long-term change can come with the briefest and smallest of projects. You could be a community group, a local council, an enlightened developer, or just someone with a vision and a bit of courage. Who knows what might be possible when we join forces. We're ready to find out. hello@turner.works 020 3846 1890

Great idea from Urna Sodnomjamts. Make construction experience part of architecture training. Currently at Turner.Works we are advertising for a delivery/technical focussed architect - someone who is passionate about and really understands construction - hardly anyone is qualified for the role, a lack of construction immersion in training and a blinkered focus on early stage design means there isn’t enough variety or depth in individual architect's specialisms. Let's support Urna's idea and anyone reading who knows someone with technical focus that may thrive at TW let me know. https://lnkd.in/emvjsDsX

Florentia Village, our creative maker campus in the Haringey Warehouse District, is the epitome of our ambition to create places people truly love and want to be in. Spaces that are inextricably linked to place and purposefully made through a community-first approach. This characterful site has been a home for fashion and manufacturing businesses since the 1970’s. Now, working closely with the local community, we’re reinventing Florentia as one of London’s biggest creative SME hubs. Through a 1.5 acre extension that will double the size of the existing campus, and designed to perfectly integrate the Village’s past into 100,000 sq ft of new, future-facing and service-led maker facilities, entirely powered by on-site solar panels. The space created will not only be affordable to local businesses, but will also deliver an entirely new concept for creative maker spaces that will become benchmark, while remaining true to the Village’s heritage. The site will be stitched back into the wider Warehouse District thanks to a network of communal areas that will reactivate the currently vacant land. Enhanced biodiversity and a series of new public spaces - topped with a programme of free cultural events, training workshops and business incubator programmes - will bring back the village’s sense of vibrancy and community. Florentia is set to become an industrial force to be reckoned with, supporting businesses to do more of what they love. Founding Director at The Place Bureau * Place Futures * Urban Research * Cultural Strategy * Destination Design *

Great to see The Place Bureau's approach on Harbour Hopes commended by Quality of Life Foundation. Big thanks to Play:Disrupt Turner.Works Burgess & Beech and Bristol City Council as collaborators. And all the creative ambassadors of the city of Bristol, from poets to photographers who captured the sense of place, people and meaning. At The Place Bureau, we believe in building better relationships with places. So to us engagement is about creativity, confidence in the future and building capacity rather than consultation. We aren’t the people standing on a street corner with a clipboard, canvassing for yes and no opinions. We are the people working with the public on new forms of R&D, blending interaction with imagination to uncover the unspoken ideas, untapped knowledge, and unexpected insights that standard methods tend to miss. #codesign #coproduction #creativeengagement #citymaking #placemaking #placevision #placefutures

Great community engagement isn’t just about asking people what they think. It’s about creating meaningful conversations that shape places for the long term. 🌟The Harbour Hopes project in Bristol, led by The Place Bureau and partners, is a strong example of this in action. Through creative workshops, storytelling, and listening sessions, the project helped uncover the emotional connections people have with Western Harbour, while tackling the challenges of regeneration and infrastructure planning. What stands out is the commitment to learning and improving. The Place Bureau has been reflecting on its work using our Code of Practice for Community Consultation and Engagement - a free tool designed to support continuous improvement and high-quality engagement. 🗣️ Speaking about the Code of Practice, Rosanna Vitiello from The Place Bureau, said: "It's a useful tool to use for planning engagement looking forward, a kind of best practice checklist. So we'll absolutely use it in the future, for ourselves and as a capacity building tool to share knowledge with clients and communities. There are too many assumptions made around engagement, and this can help bust them and pave a path forward." We’re grateful to The Place Bureau for sharing their reflections in the case study below and for their ongoing dedication to meaningful engagement. 👉 If you’d like to explore how our Code of Practice can support your work, visit: https://lnkd.in/ebZkdhaU #CommunityEngagement #CommunityConsultation #CommunityPower #HarbourHopes #BuiltEnvironment #Regeneration

  • Turner Works is excited to be part of the team led by Levitt Bernstein, alongside Montagu Evans and Arup, appointed by Liverpool City Council to develop a place-based masterplan for Pumpfields - an under-utilised 75-acre site on the northern edge of Liverpool city centre.   Our ambition as a team is to help transform Pumpfields into a thriving neighbourhood, delivering around 10,000 new homes and creating a high-quality place to live, work, and play.   This is an incredible opportunity to help reactivate a key part of the city, reconnect it with surrounding neighbourhoods, and build on its heritage to shape a distinct and deliverable vision for Liverpool North. We're already hitting the ground running with a team that blends international experience with deep local knowledge.   More details via Place North West: https://lnkd.in/gecURMvt   #masterplan #architecture #placemaking #design
