We successfully designed and delivered a 3.4km water mains renovation project in an urban environment for our client Bristol Water, 91% of which was installed using trenchless technology! By prioritising sustainability and trenchless installation, we significantly reduced excavation, waste removal, operational and embodied carbon emissions while enhancing efficiency through the delivery of the project. Trenchless methods used: · Directional Drilling · Slip Lining · Pipe Bursting Carbon-conscious decisions at every stage: Strategic locations – Combined 12 schemes in a close geographical area. Eco-friendly compound – One main site compound with a renewable green tariff mains electric supply to eliminate generator use coupled with solar powered security cameras. Sustainable plant & equipment – E-fuze electrofusion boxes, battery-powered tools, and eco welfare units. Lower carbon fuel – Used 100% HVO to reduce plant and machinery emissions by over 90% The Result: · Saved 3.1km of traditionally focused open-cut trenches, reducing excavation & soil removal. · Avoided 0.8km of service replacement excavation using Moling technology along with the Kobus. · Minimised disruption to local communities by reducing excavation, traffic management and disruption along the highway. · Significantly reduced environmental impact by reducing ground disturbance and associated haulage volume of excavated material. · Significant reduction of imported quarried aggregate.
