We're hoping to redevelop one of our key Southampton properties – our 560-bed Mercury Point: https://lnkd.in/eR9bT_m3   Our 810-bed property would replace the existing building, freeing up privately rented homes.   We've invested £90million over the past year to upgrade our properties and improve service levels.   Tom Brewerton, our Group Development Director, said:   “We’re excited about the planned redevelopment works at one of our key properties in Southampton as we work to continuously improve the student experience across our portfolio." #construction

We're working closely with Unite Foundation and the Social Market Foundation on this exciting research to better understand estranged and care experienced students’ experiences of access, progression and success at university. We'll be sharing our policy recommendations with government. We are the principal donor of the Unite Foundation, which supports estranged and care experienced students with rent-free accommodation in our properties.

I am delighted to announce that Unite Students, Unite Foundation and the Social Market Foundation are working together on an exciting piece of research to understand estranged and care experienced students’ experiences of access, progression and success at university. Only 14% of care-experienced young people are in higher education at age 19, compared to 47% of the general population. They also face higher dropout rates and lower attainment. Estranged students face similar challenges to care leavers but with less support available to them. The report will bring together evidence on the potential socioeconomic benefits of increased participation of these students in higher education. From this evidence base, we’ll be sharing our policy recommendations with the government. This research builds on the 12-year relationship between Unite Students and the Unite Foundation. Unite Foundation is the only UK charity that supports estranged and care experienced students, through its nationwide accommodation scholarship scheme and wider community support. Unite Students is Unite Foundation’s principal donor, accommodation partner, and a champion of estranged and care experienced students in higher education and I am proud that we have supported 719 young people with full accommodation scholarships.

Our employee Positive Impact programme gives our teams the opportunity to create projects that give back to their local communities. Our Sheffield team achieved our highest employee rating in 2023 for their project which worked closely with Sheffield Childrens Hospital. "The project is one of my favourite parts about working for Unite Students,” says Hollie Street, our General Manager in Sheffield. “Not only do we get to make a difference to the local community, but it brings the team together as one – the volunteering days are so positive for morale.” Their work has included donating charity pin badges to our residents during check-in, and collecting donations at our reception desk which raised more than £700. The team also run holiday gift drives and charity abseils at Sheffield Hallam University, which raised just shy of £4,000 last year, including our employee charity match, making it almost double the previous year’s total. All donations from 2023 have gone towards the hospital’s fundraising for the construction of a National Centre for Child Health Technology, a world-class research and technology centre to be built in Sheffield. 🖥 Read more about our community work: https://lnkd.in/e78jPZhe 📹 Video by: Corinne Riley ft. In our latest podcast - Innovations and inspiration for 2024/25 - Ellie Drave, our Product Manager shares how our new app will change our resident experience 📲 https://lnkd.in/ecH7_XrS “Students have been at the forefront of the new app development from the very, very beginning. Once we had identified the initial set of features, we did extensive user research on each of those features to understand students’ priorities. We then used that feedback to craft initial versions of the designs, which we again, prototype tested with students” “Once the feature has been developed, the actual live app itself is placed into the hands of students so that they can play around with it. Not only to try and break it for us so we can fix issues, but also we can get real life feedback from them.” Our new app, launching for this academic year, aims to improve the experience of booking with us, to moving in and living in our buildings, all the way through to check-out. ✏ Read the transcript here: https://lnkd.in/ecH7_XrS 🎧 Listen on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/e_MbWu8c 🍏 Listen on Apple podcasts: https://lnkd.in/e4XEAvBK
