VINCI Building colleagues were delighted to be welcomed by The Sheffield College to deliver an inspiring industry speaker session for their current T Level students. Andrew Whaley, VINCI Building’s Project Director, who’s currently heading up the team delivering the new Forge project at Sheffield Forgemasters, and Isabel Udall-James, a former T Level Construction student who’s now employed as an Assistant Engineer at VINCI Building, shared their experiences of working within the Built Environment sector, offering the Built Environment, Plumbing, and Electrical students a valuable insight into their career paths. Following a presentation, they welcomed student’s questions about the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for them, in the fields of Civil Engineering, Construction Management and related disciplines involved in construction. The session is part of a programme of Sheffield College engagement activities that VINCI Building is supporting. Later in the autumn, VINCI Building is looking forward to welcoming two T-Level students from the college, to undertake work placements within their Sheffield-based team. Commenting on the session, Chris Tandy’s Employability Skills & Placement Officer said: “Without these types of experiences from employers like VINCI Building, the students would have significantly less knowledge of what to expect when they start their career journey in their chosen fields. It is also incredibly helpful to hear a recently graduated T-Level student like Isabel, sharing her experiences and advice. The students can identify very closely with her, considering she has recently completed the journey they’ve just started.” The college’s Building Technologies Academy Director, Natalie Dodds, added: “A big thank you to VINCI Building for their continued support. These talks are an incredible opportunity for students to learn more about the industry, explore future career options, and understand work placement opportunities. We’re proud to provide our students with the chance to engage directly with industry leaders and shape their futures with confidence!” #collaboration #socialvalue #construction

A major Blackpool regeneration programme has supported a dozen young people to find their first jobs. The new Blackpool town centre office for Department of Work and Pensions will be home to over 3,000 civil servants when it opens early next year, but its construction is already having a positive impact on the local economy. Blackpool Council, developer Muse and main contractor VINCI Building UK have worked together to ensure that local people and businesses benefit from the town’s biggest construction project since The Blackpool Tower. A construction skills centre created on site has helped 16 young people from Blackpool who had left school without jobs to complete qualifications and find work experience learning skills such as bricklaying, plastering and fire protection. By the end of the programme, 12 of the young people impressed so much on site that they found permanent work with sub-contractors, helping them to start their careers in the construction industry. Penial Jonah, 16, who lives in the town centre, had no recognised qualifications when arriving on site. Through the construction skills centre programme, he has completed qualifications in English and Maths, as well as training with JCS Interiors and has now registered on a full time T Level studying Design, Planning and Management. For Charlie Congleton, 17, from South Shore, he completed school with little qualifications but had a passion for working in construction. Having completed his qualifications at the skills centre, he completed work experience in plastering with JCS Interiors where he’s now been employed as a labourer and trainee plasterer. #communitymatters #construction #socialvalue

On World Mental Health Day, the theme is about mental health in the workplace. So, let’s all come together to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. We're encouraging everyone to embrace this year's theme by making time for movement, connecting with others, and practising self care. Maybe go for a walk, check in with your friends, family, peers, or colleagues? #health #safety #wellbeing #mentalhealth #people

Absolutely great event to host with George Fielding, hosted by Wmg Academy For Young Engineers to showcase to the year 11s the different sectors in construction and various colleges/universities options. Everyone was very welcoming and all students were very enthusiastic and engaging with the event. To once be in the audience situation, it was great to try and help give the students an insite into the construction industry and help them decide what could potentially be their future career. Thank you VINCI Building UK for this opportunity!

A major milestone on the new state-of-the-art £105m adult mental health inpatient unit, North View in Manchester, has been reached with practical completion achieved with the building formally handed over to the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Work is already underway to familiarise and train staff on the use of the building. The impressive facility replaces Park House on the North Manchester General Hospital site, and is expected to open its doors to patients next month, providing 150 single bedrooms provided over nine single sex wards, and includes a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), six Adults of Working Age wards, one Older Adults ward and rehabilitation ward. The project has been delivered by #IHP, the joint venture between VINCI Building UK and Sir Robert McAlpine. Well done to the whole team who have delivered an exceptional project! #healthcare #NHS NHS England NHS Estates and Facilities #ProCure23
