VINCI Building UK has reached a major milestone at Sheffield Forgemasters with the first concrete base pour completed for its new 13,000 tonne forging line. The base works for a Top-Hat-Furnace Quench-Tank involved an excavation of circa 1,000m3 to a depth of four metres below existing ground level and required installation of over 90 tonnes of reinforcement and pouring of 460m3 of structural concrete. Concrete mixes have been specified with GGBS (Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag), an environmentally friendly, sustainable cement substitute, enhancing durability and saving approximately 30 per cent on all concrete carbon emissions. As the main civils works now start to gain momentum, pouring of up to 4,500m3 of concrete per month will commence to complete the main press pit, furnace bases and ancillary structures. #lowcarbonconcrete #loveconstruction

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has officially opened the new Emergency Department at Portsmouth’s Queen Alexandra Hospital. During the visit, Her Royal Highness (HRH) was given a tour and met many staff working across the department, discussing how the new facility, designed by staff and patients, has improved their working lives and patient care. The department opened to patients in November 2024 and has seen over 38,000 people attend with 14,000 arriving by ambulance and 23,000 people walking into the service. The Princess Royal also had the opportunity to see the new facilities in place including additional resus bays for children, double the resus capacity for adults, a new CT scanner and an accredited Changing Places facility. To mark the occasion, HRH unveiled a plaque, marking the official opening. When leaving the site, children from the local Tops Day Nurseries were on hand to wave The Princess Royal off with handmade flags and crowns. The project was delivered by IHP (the joint venture between VINCI Building UK and Sir Robert McAlpine) for Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. #healthcare #ProCure23 NHS England NHS Estates and Facilities #NHS

The first phase of works to modernise and redesign the Emergency Department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is on track for completion at the end of the month. The improvements for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) include larger, purpose-built resuscitation bays, and new larger, patient bays and improved patient visibility through new, modern staff bases. This first phase of refurbishment will provide the clinical space needed for teams to continue to make improvements and provide a positive urgent and emergency care experience for every patient. VINCI Building Radcliffe team support local Football Club Radcliffe Football Club reached out to us for assistance in renovating their football pitches, and our Radcliffe Civic Hub team was eager to help. We enlisted the support of subcontractor Roofdec, who provided skilled labour to reboard the pitches, significantly improving their quality and making them safe and enjoyable for the community. As a testament to the project’s dedication to youth development, Roofdec was also honoured to name the pitch. The VINCI Building team were delighted to attend the grand opening of the updated pitches. The enhanced facility now serves as a valuable resource for local youth groups and an alternative provision school, providing a safe and inclusive environment for sports and recreation. Special thanks to Roofdec Ltd for supporting the team on this initiative. The Civic Hub will be the centrepiece for the regeneration of Radcliffe. It will be a modern new building, located on the south block of the existing 1960’s town centre precinct and it will contain leisure facilities, library facilities, council services, and community spaces. Whipps Cross is the design and construction of a 500-space, six-storey MSCP with extensive infrastructure works. The new MSCP incorporates 100 electric charging points, infrastructure for 100 more in the future, and a security office with 100% CCTV coverage. This development will consolidate the on-site car parking, provide a high-quality parking facility with additional capacity for visitors and patients attending the main hospital, and free up the site's redevelopment space. #NHS #ProCure23

The team at the Mexborough CDC welcomed students and staff from Dearne Valley College to site. This visit was to provide the students with an opportunity to gain experience and an understanding of the operation and expectations of a construction site, view the completed facility, and discuss the process, challenges, and achievements. The tour of the site coincided with the recent installation of both MRI and CT scanners which provided a unique opportunity to witness not only closing stages of the construction works but also the final build and commissioning of the two scanners. The team have built, alongside our client Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust (DBTH), a close relationship with the college over the course of the project and have also hosted work placement opportunities, which have provided vital access and experience for the students as they progress towards full time employment. The project is being delivered by #IHP the joint venture between VINCI Building UK and Sir Robert McAlpine. #ProCure23 NHS England NHS Estates and Facilities #Healthcare

Did you know this week is National Apprenticeship Week? We caught up with apprentice engineer Harry Chamberlain from VINCI Building UK - the main contractor in St Helens town centre's regeneration programme - to find out more about the opportunities his apprenticeship has given him and how it feels to be playing such a huge part in the delivery of the regeneration of his hometown. VINCI, working on behalf of St Helens Council and its development partner ECF, will soon begin the staged process of demolishing vacant, acquired buildings around the existing St Helens Bus Station. The move will prepare the ground for work to begin on building the new St Helens Transport Interchange and Gamble Square, in advance of the existing bus station fully closing in spring and the new Temporary Bus Hub at Chalon Way becoming operational.
