Our Medway team has been formally recognised by Medway Education Business Partnership for being a valued partner, committed to supporting the workforce of tomorrow! 👏 This year to date, the contract has hosted five student placements from four different schools, with students ranging from 14-16 years old. ✨ Our first placement was led by The Education People’s Skills and Employability Service for a Workplace Visit Pilot Project aimed at providing short and focused experiences for pre-16 years. He was the first student to enter the Medway Tunnel! ✨ Two students, including an EAL student, a term used to describe learners who speak English as an additional language, joined us to learn about the administration and commercial aspects of the contract. ✨ A student who excelled in assisting the administration team, joined us for a week, and since completing her placement has secured full-time employment in a local nursery! ✨ Lastly, another student explored the commercial operations during her placement and has since expressed an interest in pursuing a career in surveying. 👉 If you are interested in work experience/placements with VolkerHighways, please request our support here: https://shorturl.at/eGxBU

VolkerHighways and Bath & North East Somerset Council have completed remedial work to Charlton Road, Keynsham, using ‘in-situ’ recycling. This is a method of reconstruction which takes place entirely on-site, eliminating wastage and reducing carbon emissions. Working with specialist contractor, Stabilised Pavements Ltd, the team used their latest recycling plant to first pulverise the existing carriageway then mix a blended cement binder while adding water to create a hydraulically bound foundation layer. The layer uses 97% of the recycled existing road material, with just 3% new materials, which is then compacted and re-profiled to reduce the likelihood of the road failing, in the future. 🕛 The scheme was completed ahead of programme, allowing surfacing to take place sooner, and the road to be opened ahead of time. 🌍 Carbon savings of 193 tonnes were derived during the scheme, that’s the equivalent of driving around the world 34 times! 🚛 The process saved 316 lorry movements thanks to the in-situ recycling method. An impressive 87% of street lighting columns over 25 years old have been replaced by VolkerHighways and Oxfordshire County Council since the start of their Street Lighting Term Maintenance Contract in 2021. 💡👏 With the nearing completion of its LED rollout programme across Oxfordshire, this year, attention has turned to testing, reviewing and replacing aged street lighting columns. This programme not only reduces the council’s energy costs but will also help to tackle carbon emissions. It’s not everyday you see a pink road!   We've been out and about treating some residential roads on behalf of Luton Borough Council and VolkerHighways using Reclamite, the only BBA HAPAS approved penetrative asphalt rejuvenator in the UK.   In this picture, you can see the left side of the road was treated 20 minutes before the right side and already the product has started to penetrate.   In just a few hours, the road will be protected and back open to traffic. The process helps to prevent defects and future disruption to local residents 🙌   📧 If you'd like to know more about how Reclamite can keep good roads in good condition, email Trevor Thompson at trevor.thompson@roadtechsgroup.com.   #RepairNotReplace #Reclamite #Highways #Sustainability

    • A residential street that has just been treated using Reclamite. The right side of the road is still pink, while the left side is now turning black, as the Relcamite penetrates the surface.

There is a white car in the distance facing the camera. The Reclamite sprayer can be seen driving off away from the camera. It is a bright and sunny day.

VolkerHighways was recently approached by Little Stars Pre-School, part of the Centre for Youth and Community Development in Luton, to resurface the driveway to their nursery, a project that would have been too costly without our assistance. 👩🏫✨ Facilitated by Luton Borough Council, VolkerHighways funded the resurfacing and re-lining of the driveway as a gesture of goodwill to enable the charity to continue to support over 5,000 local people each year through their wide range of services for people aged between one and pensioners. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eejqbBkh 🔉🎤 Listen to an interview with Councillor Javed Hussain, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Economy at Luton Council and Tahir Khan, Trustee for CYCD, about the transformation.
