Mission Critical- Space, Satellites,Skills Excellence and Securitisation was the focus for the WorldSkills UK Centre of Excellence Technical Leadership Professional Exchange yesterday, in partnership with NCFE & in collaboration with Innovate UK & Satellite Applications Catapult,& supported by our industry partners MTC - Manufacturing Technology Centre & Autodesk. A very interesting and engaging day with plenty of key takeaways. Amplifying the need to remain agile, to change and adapt as technology enables digital transformation solutions improving our everyday lives. Huge opportunities in the Space Industry sector with ambitions set high for the UK in terms of the global market by 2030. The day provided a ‘creative learning space’ for FE & HE providers, employers, technologists and key stakeholders- the cross section we always discuss being essential to support the skills value chain, workforce foresighting and the championing of future skills. Educators play an important role in the ‘Catalyst’ part of the chain, WorldSkills UK enabling diffusion. Great presentations from Kathie Bowden sharing insights into leading research at the Catapult and discussing satellite applications, and the space debris cycle; Emily Brennan @Charlotte Holt Workforce Foresighting Hub enabling systems level working. Fascinating insights from Donna Lyndsay Ian Buckingham Fellow LPI Lynne Taylerson - providing examples of digital solutions that are helping to address very real challenges, while exploring opportunities through AI, Machine Learning and horizon scanning to Industry 5.0, 6.0 inc. possibilities-IHuman, with current research into neural interfaces between humans and machines. Technology is transforming work, learning and life & there is a priority need to support dual professional updating of educators, and to provide ‘work- based learning opportunities & industry insights for individuals. People & Place based approaches essential as highlighted by Alexander Kennedy Darran Marks . Creating ladders of opportunities & supporting learner progression was explored through an engaging panel discussion skillfully chaired by Dr Mandy Crawford-Lee FRSA with thought leadership shared by Michelle Bibby Vikki Liogier Alison J. Ackroyd Simon Parker NPQSL @Kristi Mae Taylor Iwan Roberts . The importance of high quality, impartial careers education, information, advice & guidance was explored in an engaging way- thank you Tom Warrender - helping us also to consider future remote personal healthcare. Education Landscape at a glance & the useful employer focussed resources developed by Gatsby Charitable Foundation was explored by Ruth Joseph. The importance of ‘Mindset for Success was explored by Laura Leong, with the Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Commercialisn Framework being ‘unpacked’ by Debbie Johnson. Our day included a tour of the observation lab- amazing! Feeling inspired & excited for what we can achieve in partnership #Skillsexcellence #Raisingstandards
