HOMES - LIVES - COMMUNITIES
About us
Woven (formerly Habinteg Housing Association (Ulster) Ltd) was founded in 1976 as a registered housing association in Northern Ireland. We plan, develop and manage ‘integrated’ housing schemes in both urban and rural areas throughout the region and work with a number of partner organisations in providing supported housing projects. Woven represents not only our name, but also what we do. Our aim is to develop housing and bring people together to create thriving neighbourhoods, weaving together homes, lives and communities to help create a shared vision of an inclusive Northern Ireland. Our Vision - Homes, lives and Communities; Woven, as one encapsulates this central aim. To achieve our Vision, we provide housing which combines a range of dwelling types - family houses, apartments and bungalows - in order to appropriately meet the needs of the widest range of users, including older persons and persons with a disability. Quality, sustainable developments include large and medium sized suburban housing developments, inner city apartments, individual rural cottages and specialised housing schemes. Partnership projects include sensitively designed housing with care schemes, temporary accommodation for people who are homeless, and housing initiatives for people with additional support needs. The standard and quality of Woven’s developments has been recognised at local and national level with an impressive list of high profile awards, including the UK Housing Award for Outstanding Achievement in Social Housing in Northern Ireland and the RICS Award for the Northern Ireland region. We are a Customer Service Excellence organisation and have Investor in People Gold status. Woven’s main offices are in Belfast with a regional office in Derry/Londonderry. At an operational level, we have four Directorates - Homes & Communities, Asset Management, Development, Finance and Corporate Services.

Still buzzing from yesterday's Greening Social Housing Conference hosted by Alpha Housing 👏. Informative, engaging, and positive – it was so encouraging to see so many like-minded organisations come together at Queen's University Belfast to discuss the vital importance of social housing green assets and their benefits to all our tenants' health and wellbeing. Bravo to the whole team for putting this fantastic event together yesterday. We look forward to seeing more of these positive steps forward for parallel climate and biodiversity action, and remain optimistic about the new opportunities these actions will deliver. 🌍 Derek Johnston, Katrina Smyth, Joanne Murphy, Elena Aceves-Cully CMIOSH PIEMA LLB, Aico, NIFHA - Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations, Woven Housing Association #SustainableDevelopment, #Biodiversity, #Ecosystems #socialhousing

20 tonnes of carbon capture at our Springbank Greenspace initiative. As part of our annual BiTC Carbon Benchmarking, we’ve started documenting our green assets and sharing these to illustrate our carbon footprint and Net Zero journey. We are particularly proud of our first carbon capture site at our Greenspace initiative at Springbank Drive, Poleglass. Though not immediately apparent, this site is passively removing and storing carbon, while our installed Sustainable Drainage System is catching and filtering rainwater, reducing the amount of run-off into the sewage system. The volume of Carbon Capture, even in this one project, is extremely impressive - as shown in this handy infographic. A Heart for Housing: Grainne Robinson of Woven Housing Association - Housing Professional of the Year 2025 We're thrilled to celebrate Grainne, Housing Manager at Woven, who shares the title of Housing Professional of the Year at the 2025 CIH All Ireland Awards. Grainne's dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to tenants make her a true inspiration in the social housing sector. ➡️ A Journey Rooted in Personal Experience Grainne's journey into housing began somewhat serendipitously. Starting with administrative duties at NIHE, she progressed through various roles, including the regional office and grants department, before joining Woven (formerly Habinteg), where she now serves as a regional manager in Derry/Londonderry. Her decision to work in housing is deeply personal. Grainne grew up in social housing and vividly recalls her mother's joy upon receiving the keys to their family home – a moment she described as "life-changing." This personal connection fuels her passion for providing quality housing and improving lives. ➡️ What Defines a Housing Professional? As Grainne won the housing professional of the year category, it was only apt that I asked her “what does professionalism mean to you?” Grainne discussed some very simple actions that she believes matter most; keeping your promises, providing compassionate support to tenants and colleagues, fostering collaboration and teamwork and understanding the profound impact of housing on individuals and families. This last point really resonated with me as Grainne also humbly stated “I’m just doing my job to the best of my ability”. ➡️ Grainne's Advice for Aspiring Professionals Grainne offers valuable advice for those pursuing a career in housing. She talks of how gaining a diverse experience and exploring various departments within your organisation will help you to understand the interconnectedness of housing services. She also tells us how she embraces the variety of housing and enjoys the dynamic nature, where every day presents new challenges and opportunities. Grainne is also very passionate about continuous professional development and talks about how CIH has helped with her learning. Her advice is to prioritise training and to invest in topics that will help to develop essential skills, such as; resilience, professional boundaries, and effective communication. But she also mentions the importance of networking and collaboration, the ability to connect with other professionals in the sector and to share best practices to challenge your organisation and yourself to improve. But most importantly, Grainne reminds her teams and colleagues to maintain Work-Life Balance. Remember to prioritise your own well-being while going the extra mile for tenants. ➡️ A Legacy of Excellence Grainne's story is a testament to the power of dedication, empathy, and a genuine commitment to serving others. She is a shining example of what it means to be a Housing Professional.
