Just in case you were wondering, Day 3 of Lloyd's Academy for RIMS (Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.) could best be described as the crowning moment on an outstanding programme. With the theme 'Interacting with the market' our day started with a 1.5 hour claims panel, that was still too short, with Jillian Frank and Rich Woodhams making a repeat appearance and our new panellist, Helen Ashenden inspiring more interaction from the audience. We then released the delegates to Underwriter and Broker Shadowing, with volunteers from 24 insurance companies, who were invited to join us for a networking lunch hosted by Bruce Carnegie-Brown by the Lloyd's Old Library. Once again, Bruce inspired the audience with his industry knowledge and reinforced the importance of innovation for insurance to remain relevant in this ever changing global landscape. Day 3 ended with Liveried Head Waiter, Paul Warden completing a live signing of one of the certificates of completion; closing remarks from Gary LaBranche, FASAE, CAE; and a certificate ceremony hosted by Dawn Miller, ARM, ERMP.

So on to Day 2 of Lloyd's Academy for RIMS (Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.). We stayed on Gallery 11 yesterday for insightful presentations on managing the global landscape - from land to the sea and as far away as the galaxy! Nicholas Robert kicked things off with a conversation exploring the impact of AI on cyber risk. Then we went into a session with Neil Roberts on underwriting considerations for shipping in war zones, and spent a significant amount of time in various cyber workshops with Ian Brosnan and Graeme M. - the expertise of our risk managers really showed with the measures they put in place to protect these fictitious manufacturing/ treatment plants. Speaking of the galaxy, David Wade took us out of this world to unveil the challenges with insuring space debris removal... must admit that it was alarming to realise how many fragments are floating in space, especially from disintegrating satellites. Our risk managers then had their say in the 'Voice of the Customer' session led by Iryna Chekanava who also outlined the work Lloyd's is doing to inspire and encourage innovation. We ended the day with a fabulous dinner in the Adam Room hosted by Rachel Turk and other executives from the Corporation.

What a wonderful time we've been having at Lloyd's Academy for RIMS 2024. Yesterday our Commercial Director, Dawn Miller, ARM, ERMP kicked off the programme with the opening briefing followed by a welcome from Gary LaBranche, FASAE, CAE, the CEO of RIMS (Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.) and overview of Lloyd's from Hank Watkins. This was followed by a very interesting presentation from Nick Donovan on captives and multinational solutions, where the 17 North American risk managers asked several loaded questions that Nick handled like a pro. Speaking of professionals, in the afternoon we were then treated to a CEO Roundtable with Carl Bach, III, Lorraine Harfitt and Richard Watson who all had different perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of the insurance landscape, shared their personal career progression stories and even their plans for the future. The Lloyd's Lab showcase was also exceptional with presentations from Kieran Linger, Giles Watkins, Benedict Altier; Nicholas Franzosa and Alistair Moodie. Now on to Day 2... not sure if we can top the first day.

The Council Academy at Lloyd's just came to an end, and we are reflecting on another successful year, in partnership with the The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers. ➡ 3 days in the iconic Lloyd's of London building ➡ 15 keynote speakers including Patrick Tiernan who gave an overview of the Lloyd's market; Bruce Carnegie-Brown who provided insights on the industry landscape; and 2x Bestselling Author, Speaker & Coach Philipp Humm who led a storytelling workshop ➡ 6 special hosts for the Adam Room dinner with the main host, Rebekah Clement, giving a warm welcome and outlining how the insurance industry makes societies more resilient from natural disasters and unexpected events. ➡ 22 Underwriters and 20 Brokers volunteering for our shadowing exercises where the delegates had the opportunity to experience what it is like to place risks on the Underwriting Floor. ➡ 6 Broker mentors who gave sound advice to the delegates for their case studies. ➡ 3 Underwriter judges who did an outstanding job, namely Jahangez Chaudhery, Katie Hunter (Cupman) ACII PG CERT and Will Thoms. ➡ But most importantly, 22 North American brokers who took time away from their intense roles to be with us. It is a shame that we cannot thank everyone by name, but you know who you are and without your contributions, this programme could never be a success. And to the working group consisting of leaders from Amwins, Ardonagh and Miller Insurance... a huge thank you.
