What an incredible day at #CGI2024! Yesterday, we made a bold commitment to transform the textile industry with our Building Circular Systems initiative. The energy and engagement Clinton Global Initiative were nothing short of inspiring, and we’re excited to get to work! Our focus now shifts from the announcement to action. Over the next two years, we’ll be collaborating with industry leaders to recycle 325 tons of textiles, launch a groundbreaking textile mapping tool, and deliver critical educational resources to empower both brands and consumers to make more sustainable choices. The support from our partners and others has been overwhelming. Together, we’re ready to redefine what’s possible in the world of #circularfashion and create a future where waste is minimized and materials are continuously repurposed. 🌍 Recap from the AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) Textile Discovery Summit 🌍 Last week, our VP of Global Programs & Stakeholder Engagement, Shelly Gottschamer, shared valuable insights on the urgent need for large-scale textile recycling at the AATCC Textile Discovery Summit in Savannah, GA. Shelly emphasized the environmental damage caused by the current linear model in the textile industry, noting that textiles accounted for 16.9 million tons of waste in the U.S. alone in 2018. Globally, the underutilization of clothing leads to an annual economic loss of $500 billion, and currently, less than 1% of used clothing is recycled into new materials.
