On #WorldRefugeeDay, there are more refugees in the world than ever before. Displacement in Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine drive millions to hunger. In mid-2023, 110 million people worldwide were displaced, and 43.3 million of them --- or 40% --- were children under 18. By now, that number has risen even higher. Action Against Hunger works closely with refugees to help them rebuild their lives. Many of our staff members are refugees themselves. Every day, we work to prevent and treat malnutrition, provide mental health services, improve access to water and sanitation, and support displaced people, wherever they end up. As conflict in Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine rages on, our teams face the displacement crisis head-on. Action Against Hunger HEARO https://bit.ly/3xgpLpD

The escalation of the conflict in Lebanon, with ground incursions into the south, deepens the human crisis and increases the number of displaced people, now over one million. Action Against Hunger is calling for urgent humanitarian access to affected areas to continue delivering food, water, mattresses and hygiene items. More aid is needed to secure the supply chain and reinforce humanitarian funding, with a particular focus on the more than 100,000 people who have fled to Syria. Last Friday, we hosted an interactive panel at our office featuring Roger Thurow and panelists Ginya Truitt Nakata from The Nature Conservancy and Rebecca Middleton from the World Food Programme, moderated by Dr. Charles Owubah. The discussion addressed the critical issues around the need for a nutritious food supply while combating the impacts of climate change. Thank you to everyone who attended. We are confident that together, we can end hunger, for everyone, for good.

Recent strikes in Lebanon have killed more than 550 people, including 50 children. Around 1,800 people are wounded. The air strikes mark the deadliest day in Lebanon since the country’s civil war in 1990. Action Against Hunger has been working in #Lebanon since 2006. The #climatecrisis is already impacting millions of people globally. Our sector faces a challenging dilemma: it’s urgent to promote #sustainability, but many underfunded NGOs rely on fossil fuels that worsen air pollution and harm our health. As we strive to be more eco-friendly, we’re honored to announce the new Renewable Energies for Assisting Communities Tool (REact) during #ClimateWeek. It’s the first tool of its kind and was developed by Action Against Hunger with input from 40 NGOs and UN agencies. It is free to use. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4gAuGU0

Leadership isn't one person leading a team, it is a group of leaders working together, up and down the chain of command, to lead - Jocko Willink Last week, Action Against Hunger | ACF-USA in Uganda hosted the International Leadership group and together we visited the Nakivale Refugee settlement to review the collective impact of our work towards improving the lives of refugees. Uganda hosts the most refugees in Africa with over 1.7M people mainly from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Seeing people in these refugee settlements especially the new arrivals who had to make the painful choice of leaving everything they knew and had behind for the sake of survival fills your heart with so much grief and gratitude at the same time. Grief for them having to restart their lives from scratch with nothing but hope and gratitude for everything you are and have been given. Everytime i go to these refugee settlements, i am reminded of how grateful i should be; It never leaves me the same and my colleague, swaibu Katerega couldn't help but remind me of how easily possible it is for Ugandans to become refugees.
