🗣️ Day 2 #AIGADesignConf Highlight: Turning Neurodivergent Challenges into Creative Strengths On day two, we continued to learn, explore, build on ideas 🗯, and make meaningful connections. One of today's standout sessions was the Design Dialogue, ❇ "Turning Neurodivergent Challenges into Creative Strengths," ❇ led by Creative Director and Design Leader Jason Adam. This energizing and inclusive forum offered a safe space to discuss neurodiversity and its role in the creative process. Happily, awareness of neurodiversity has increased dramatically in recent years. ADHD, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and other neurodivergent conditions are no longer seen as issues that need to be "fixed," but as differences we can embrace and leverage for creative strengths. 🔑 Key questions explored in the session included: 🔸 What neurodiverse condition(s) have you been diagnosed with? 🔸 Have you disclosed your neurodivergence at work? 🔸 What challenges do you face, and how do you manage them? 🔸 What tools and strategies help you stay focused and productive? 🦸🏻♂ And, what are our neurodivergent superpowers? 🔗 Resources: 🔸 Job Accommodation Network (JAN): https://lnkd.in/gtrChkDR 🔸 Working Genius: https://lnkd.in/ey2iE-C Helpful Participant Recommendations: 🔸 Noise-canceling headphones 🔸 Fidget tools 🔸 Binaural beats for focus 🔸 Whiteboarding techniques for planning 🔸 Priority grids for strategy 🔸 Project management tools like Asana or Trello 🔸 Caffeine: is it beneficial or detrimental to your executive functioning? 🔸 A natural diet low in processed foods and chemicals to help focus 🔸 Discussing accommodations with your manager, such as providing clear priorities 👤 About the Speaker: Jason Adam is a visionary Creative Director and Design Leader dedicated to helping brands and individuals embrace their most authentic and fearless selves. With a rich portfolio that includes experience with global brands like Mattel, Kia, EY, and Nvidia, his work extends across numerous creative domains and includes the acclaimed book design of "Art of Atari." Diagnosed with ADHD at 13, he uses his neurodiversity to fuel his creative approach, passionately advocating for neurodivergent designers. Jason is a former president of AIGA Los Angeles, and conquers mountains in his spare time, most recently Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. He values respect, mentorship, collaboration, and the adage, "A rising tide lifts all boats." He resides in Hollywood, CA, with his fiancé and dog. 🔸IG: @jason.adam.go 🔸X: @jasonadam 👏 Thank you, Jason, for your beneficial and supportive discussion! 🗯 How do you make the most of your neurodiverse superpowers? 🗣️ #AIGADesignConf Highlight: Centered: People and Ideas Diversifying Design Day 1 of the virtual AIGA Design Conference kicked off with energy, excitement, and lively conversation 🎉🎉🎉! We'd like to share some highlights ❇ from one of today's vibrant panels, Centered: People and Ideas Diversifying Design, a powerful exploration of the deep connections between design and identity, showcasing the incredible contributions of marginalized and global cultures. Branching off from the themes from the book of the same name, the panel dove into the future of design, pushing beyond Eurocentrism and embracing more inclusive, diverse design practices and theories. The panel explored how cultural, social, and political contexts influence design meanings and methodologies–often contrasting significantly with mainstream, grid-based Swiss styles. Key discussions included: 🔸 Amazigh Symbols (with Dina Benbrahim)  🔸 Chinese Type (with YuJune Park and Caspar Lam)  🔸 Color & Identity (with Zipeng Zhu)  🔸 Decolonizing Graphic Design (with Cheryl D. Holmes Miller, DHL)  🔸 Gee’s Bend Quilters (with Steve Child and Isabella D’Agnenica)  🔸 Imagery of the Cuban Revolution (with Elaine Lopez)  🔸 Indigenous Sovereignty and Design (with Sadie Red Wing)  🔸 Truck Art of India (with Shantanu Suman)  🔸 Vocal Type (with Tré Seals)  🔸...and the problem with Bauhaus! 👏 Thank you for a terrific panel! 🗯 Attendees....share your nice comments about this panel below! 🪪 Your membership makes a big impact, helping us create events like the AIGA Design Conference!
