Help us on our hike! We are preparing for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to support our colleague Phoebe and to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities - a fantastic charity which aims to ensure families can be by their child’s bedside when they need to be – whilst also maintaining as much of a normal life as possible, and at the same time reducing the emotional and financial strain that comes with an ill child. ‘This truly incredible charity provides invaluable support to families going through a difficult time,’ explains Phoebe. ‘Every donation, no matter how big or small, has a real life impact that we have witnessed first-hand. Our mission is to raise as much awareness as possible for this deserving charity so that they can continue to help the families who need it.' https://lnkd.in/eemTyjaM

We've loved volunteering this summer! Giving back to our community is something we're driven by and value. Our WorkFamily get two paid days of volunteer time each year, and we look to keep growing this area of work and making sure our team can give back to causes they're most passionate about. A huge thanks to The Felix Project, Thames21, Refettorio Felix & Dogs Trust for having us these past few months and giving us more insight to the inspiring work you all do! https://lnkd.in/edMPc6X4

We have always aimed to prioritise innovation and impact through our charity initiatives, and very much recognised these qualities in the fantastic organisation Cool Earth. They recently began the world’s first basic income pilot for Indigenous people who live in rainforests to protect the forest and fight the climate crisis. We are proud to have supported this project through a donation of £25,000, and now to see their early stage successes. “Poverty is the biggest driver of deforestation in these areas. These communities in very remote areas not only face a lack of access to basic needs – healthcare, food, education – but on top of that they face the climate crisis. There are more fires in the forest and more droughts. There are also a lot of illegal economies going into these places: illegal logging, illegal mining and drug cartels. Growing drugs is one of the main drivers of deforestation in the areas of the Amazon where we work. “When people are in urgent need and want to take their children for medical care or to school, sometimes these cycles of poverty lead them to take on roles in those illegal activities, or to sell their land or allow their trees to be cut down. Giving them financial support gives them a choice to have a more sustainable way of living.”

We've been featured in The Guardian for our Basic Income Pilot! 🌟 “Poverty is the biggest driver of deforestation. These communities in very remote areas not only face a lack of access to basic needs – healthcare, food, education – but on top of that they face the climate crisis." This pilot is the first project of it's kind in the Amazon rainforest and has been three years in the making, working together with Indigenous peoples and our partners, to develop a programme that meets people’s needs in the fairest way possible. It's amazing to see the project getting the recognition it deserves. It continues to be a pleasure to support Barrie Wells Trust and to see wonderful memories being made!

Our charity provides seriously ill children with VIP experiences in executive boxes through our Box4Kids initiative.

We had the absolute pleasure of inviting almost 200 seriously ill and disabled children and their families make magical memories at Feld Entertainments Disney on Ice at The O2 over Christmas. Children came from 20 local hospitals, hospices, and charities to watch their favourite characters from the safety and luxury of an executive box. Many of the families supported by the Trust spent time in hospital over Christmas so having something to look forward to truly meant the world to them. A mum who attended the show with her two daughters shared what the experience meant to her family, “thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the most memorable Boxing Day evening at Disney on Ice. Seeing the girls faces light up with the Disney magic is a memory I will cherish forever. At only 9 years old [my daughter] is just 11 weeks out of her 2nd major brain surgery to try and reduce her extensive syrinx. This fantastic gift gave her an evening to forget and distract from her pain levels in a safe beautiful space at an amazing show. They were allowed to be normal little girls for the day and forget their daily health struggles. This is priceless.” For some families, the health struggles faced by each child differ. One Mum came with two of her poorly children, still leaving one behind at home. “The children had a wonderful time, dancing and singing and made lovely memories. The kids felt safe in the box away from other people as their baby brother only has half a heart and is on palliative care, so the kids are scared of getting germs and passing it onto their brother”.   The sad truth is that there will always be fewer empty boxes than there are sick and disabled children. Every box donated to the Trust is filled with such joy and happiness, and it costs so little to organisations who may otherwise leave it empty. A huge thank you to ZISHI, Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, QBE Insurance, Arc Group London Limited, Britvic plc, Compass Group, Levy, Lime Venue Portfolio, Severfield, and Ambassadeurs Group for enabling us to help some wonderful young people make some very special memories at the The O2 in December.
