A DESPERATELY NEEDED STEP FORWARD FOR GRID RELIABILITY A new, bipartisan energy and mine permitting bill from Senators Joe Manchin and John Barrasso is a critical step forward to addressing a host of delays and obstacles derailing urgently needed projects. It’s also a very important step forward in bringing much-needed daylight to a singularly alarming threat to the nation’s grid reliability: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). https://lnkd.in/gmMN4bU8

Mining in 2024 Looking at the rapid changes in the energy market and the changes the coal industry has seen over the last decade or more, 2023 should be noted as the year that coal’s credibility on the grid reliability crisis and the dangers posed by the regulatory onslaught firmly took root. https://lnkd.in/gki7V4z2 National Mining Association Rich Nolan

Coal Mid-Year Update - July 2024 Coal markets are stabilising following recent years of uncertainty unleashed by the global energy crisis. Coal remains the primary global energy source for electricity generation, and increased demand for electricity continues to fuel global coal demand. Clean energy technologies such as solar, wind and hydropower are gaining traction but what impact have recent world events had on their uptake, and are we yet at the point of a structural decline in coal demand? https://lnkd.in/gZs7mBsr

American Coal Council reposted this
Today, 27 states filed motions with the U.S. Supreme Court to stay EPA’s carbon rule. We commend these states for asking the Supreme Court to stop EPA from implementing the rule, which is designed to force the closure of coal power plants even though they provide dependable electricity to ratepayers in 40 states. Halting the rule until legal challenges are settled is necessary to prevent utilities from wasting hundreds of millions of ratepayer dollars in an attempt to comply with a rule that is not only an illegal overreach but will undermine the reliability of our electricity system, reduce supplies of electricity at the same time electricity demand is exploding, and allow the administration to impose its unrealistic and expensive energy preferences on states and consumers. America’s Power will also be filing a stay motion with the Supreme Court, and we are optimistic that the courts will determine that EPA has overreached again, just as EPA did when it issued the original Clean Power Plan under former President Obama. Reading and Northern adds management to oversee growing coal business Over the last two years RBMN has increased its service to coal producers, purchasing more coal freight cars and hiring additional customer service staff. With demand for Pennsylvania anthracite expected to increase by double- digit levels in the years to come, RBMN is realigning its senior management resources to better manage this growing market segment.
