Advancing Evidence. Improving Lives.
About us
Since 1946, the American Institutes for Research (AIR) has been advancing evidence to evolve systems, improve lives, and ultimately create a better, more equitable world. We are a nonprofit research and technical assistance institution working to solve some of the most urgent challenges in the U.S. and around the world. Our experts in education, health, workforce, human services, and international development follow the evidence to find and apply solutions that will work. Our work helps policymakers make important decisions based on evidence, and we work with leaders, organizations, and communities to create more effective programs. We never stop digging to find what works and where we have more to learn.

Children and youth spend much of their time in school, making schools a gateway to needed health, behavioral, and mental health services, provided directly, or through referral systems that connect students to community sources of care. The National Center for Healthy Safe Children offers training and technical assistance, program evaluation, and customized support in promoting mental health and reducing violence to elevate the health and safety of communities nationwide. For #WorldMentalHealthDay, explore their online module, “Developing a Comprehensive Mental Health Program in Your School-Community,” which describes why school mental health is important and offers best practices on how to develop, implement, and sustain a comprehensive school mental health program. https://lnkd.in/g9Pre2_m

High school students who complete a #FAFSA are significantly more likely to enroll and remain in college than those who do not. By the end of 2023, several states adopted policies requiring all students to complete a FAFSA in order to graduate, and offering support that helps with the application process. While these policies benefit students, many schools cannot support the increased workload on school counselors. Through a 2-year study in Texas, AIR experts examined how FAFSA requirements affect school administrators in that state, and offer suggestions for easing the burden on school staff. https://lnkd.in/gMxsuVNM

In a new article from the Council on Foreign Relations Think Global Health, AIR's Jessie Pinchoff and other #climate experts explore the relationship between extreme heat and the risk of violence in Mexico, and suggest solutions such as #MentalHealth support for young people, collaborative research across disciplines, heat action plans, and investment in urban green spaces.
