Coming into HLTH in Las Vegas, here are some of the things on my mind around improving employer sponsored healthcare. Our team Morgan Health has been at this now for about 3 years. A few observations about our work and where things are going well and where we are learning lessons that need to be shared. 1. Primary care is critically important for the patient experience, and needs to be improved. Our work in Columbus with apree health is our longest running and stable pilot example in the JPMC environment - NPS of 88, providers generally meeting clinical performance guarantees, and potential for downstream cost savings through better care navigation. 2. Narrow networks are preferred by many consumers as our healthcare system continues to fragment and deteriorate. We started offering Kaiser Permanente in CA and it’s very popular. Initial indications for Centivo pilot in Dallas are also that our employees appreciate having a lower cost high quality option. 3. Virtual care is a complement, but not a substitute for in person care. We’re finding employees expect to be able to engage virtually … but don’t want to have virtual care as “mandatory” or a pre-requisite to physical care. 4. AI has potential to improve efficiency of care in areas such as physical therapy Sword Health Hinge Health reading of cardiac CTs Cleerly and other areas of medicine where incorporation of vast amounts of data is necessary to improve care. It can also drive efficiency in billing and note taking. By contrast, we haven’t seen anything that replaces the primary care interaction. 5. Employers need better data to be better financial stewards of their spend, and to be better fiduciaries for employees. We’re gearing up to launch a pilot of a value-based benefit design with Embold Health where employees choosing a high quality / lower cost provider will not have a co-pay. Financially incenting good decisions is one of our central theses, and we will investment more in this area in the near future. Our team has been doing a considerable amount of work on quality of care - we’ll be releasing detail of this next week. . Finally - a thought on the role of insurers in the improvement of employer-sponsored healthcare. Much of the work we are doing - improving primary care, better using data, addressing areas of unmet needs - can and should be integrated into standard insurance offerings. We appreciate our ongoing partnerships with Elevance Health Mosaic Health around primary care / apree, and Cigna Healthcare around data / Embold. And expect more in the future. Many of the companies we see that are driving innovation work collaboratively with plans and they have much power to leverage innovation efficiently. Happy to talk about all of this and more at HLTH Inc.
