Leading the way to a future where people and robots work together to grow U.S. manufacturing leadership
About us
The ARM (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing) Institute accelerates the development and adoption of innovative robotics technologies that are the foundation of every advanced manufacturing activity today and in the future. We leverage a unique, robust and diverse ecosystem of partners across industry, academia and government to: - make robotics, autonomy and artificial intelligence more accessible to U.S. manufacturers large and small - train and empower the manufacturing workforce - strengthen our economy and global competitiveness - elevate our national security and resilience The ARM Institute operates as part of the Manufacturing USA network, and is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. By creating a collaborative ecosystem of like-minded organizations, the ARM Institute is speeding the movement of industrial robots into commercial use, while preparing a labor force to operate and manage these technologies. ARM is an integral part of Pittsburgh’s strategy to define the future of the global manufacturing economy and will be the lead tenant at Hazelwood Green, a unique hub that will revolutionize U.S. manufacturing. ARM Institute Chief Strategy Officer Suzy Teele joined ARM Member AmSkills AmSkills CEO Tom Mudano and COO Alex Anzalone at the graduation ceremony for the 30th class to complete AmSkills two-week Discovery Bootcamp, a program that ARM Institute helped to start with a grant in 2018. Since this time, AmSkills has helped hundreds of people from all walks of life, including veterans, homeless, recently incarcerated, single parents and many others develop basic skills for a career in manufacturing, working directly with manufacturers who support the program by interviewing graduates for roles at their organizations. Emily Stover DeRocco was a connector. She believed in “linking and leveraging” people and resources for the greater good. Whether in her role as Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Labor, the President of the Manufacturing Institute, or in any of her many leadership roles on corporate and academic boards, Emily believed in the power of work and the right for every individual to have the opportunity to “work hard at work worth doing.” The DeRocco Fellowship program has been developed to honor the impact of Emily’s career in education and workforce development and to provide a pathway to leadership for young women in advanced manufacturing. The DeRocco Fellowship will offer women enrolled in an undergraduate program – at a university or a community college- the opportunity to experience the potential of an advanced manufacturing career firsthand. There are two upcoming employer-focused webinars that will detail how the DeRocco Fellows can enhance your summer intern’s work experience with mentorship, professional development, and a community of like-minded women working in manufacturing. Learn more about this effort and register for the informational webinars (taking place July 30 and August 5) here: https://lnkd.in/dsN-pTjY

Our Robotics Manufacturing Hub team recently hosted Pittsburgh manufacturer, Robinson Fans, at our facility to explore solutions for robotic multi-pass welding for structural components and to help their team get hands-on with robotics welding! By the end of the free three-hour meeting, Robinson Fans gained: ➡ Hands-on familiarization with industrial robots, collaborative robots, and Motosim simulation software ➡ An understanding of the differences between industrial and collaborative robots and how those differences can play to their strengths and weaknesses ➡ Knowledge of the process it takes to apply robotic automation to their welded parts ➡ Knowledge of the market landscape for robotic welding and capabilities ➡ A sample robotically welded part, programmed by Robinson Fans staff as taught by the ARM Institute team, to take home for x-ray inspection so that the ARM Institute and Robinson Fans can continue to perfect the process before Robinson Fans commits to purchasing a robot arm Are you a small or medium-sized manufacturer in the Southwestern Pennsylvania region?
