About us

Official AUKUS Forum Program utilising AUKUS Connect to support Australian industry with investment & innovation. AUKUS Connect is dedicated to uncovering and nurturing opportunities that not only strengthen Australia's AUKUS capabilities but also propel Australian industry onto the global stage. AUKUS Connect is spearheaded by industry specialist Michael Sharpe, who is involved in a wide range of organisations across engineering, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, environmental sustainability, the space industry, academia, and the nuclear industry. He is extremely well connected with Australia’s manufacturing, industrial and political leaders, as well as the country’s top universities, including activities in the nuclear and AUKUS spheres. Widely regarded as one of the most connected people in Australian industry, with a strong focus on business transactions, Michael is focussed on transformation – helping countless businesses to access new export opportunities and enter adjacent markets such as traditional engineering firms entering the space and defence industries. This gives him an unrivalled ability to connect with key decision makers, to facilitate contacts between Australian and overseas manufacturers, establish joint ventures and establish supply chains. At the heart of our mission is the drive to support Australian industries in their growth trajectories and to unlock their export potential. By fostering strategic partnerships, we aim to cultivate a robust ecosystem where investors can contribute to and benefit from the largest industrial project in Australia's history.

Jericho Disruptive Innovation (JDI) continues to develop prototype capabilities for Head of Air Force Capability (HAC) to demonstrate options to solve gaps, risk and issues and take opportunities. A part of this remit includes the testing of developmental systems in a safe and risk managed way, and in this context JDI has raised Project ‘CAMEL TRAIN’. Improving the Australian Defence Force’s ability to operate from Australia’s northern approaches is a key priority outlined by the National Defence Strategy (NDS) for the future integrated force and this will be the primary focus for CAMEL TRAIN. The logistics supply chain within Australia’s northern approaches needs fundamental modernisation and novel solutions to meet the strategic objective of responding with credible military force. A resilient and robust logistics supply chain management system is required to enable commanders to fight, sustain and win in Australia’s northern approaches. CAMEL TRAIN will deliver a suite of air vehicles integrated into an autonomous Air Logistics Support (ALS) system. The CAMEL TRAIN system will strengthen the supply chain and offer a solution for rapid resupply of smaller stores to meet unforeseen urgent demands. The ability to rapidly resupply spokes from a logistic hub without straining personnel or larger airframes would significantly enhance the capacity and efficiency of the existing air logistics system. CAMEL TRAIN will eventually encompass a family of vehicles, ranging from short distance (50km) rotor variants capable of precision delivery up to 50kg, to longer range (1000km) fixed wing variants capable of transporting 1000kg. Larger variants will allow for optional crewing. Support at sea as well as land is planned, with at least some variants to be able to support maritime units by air drop or amphibious landings in waters up to Sea State 2. The system is to have a proven detect and avoid (DAA) function for flight control to operate in Class G airspace due to the prevalence of multiple users in that class of airspace. It is also recognised that using a type certified airframe for initial testing mayspeed introduction into active service. CAMEL TRAIN will be implemented in phases. This Request for Proposal (RFP) will define the scope of development services required for Phase 1 and will underpin subsequent procurement stages. Drawing a sharp contrast to the boosterism or appeals to patriotism usually seen from government and defence figures when the ambitious nature of AUKUS is questioned, Vice Admiral Mead acknowledged the project may not go smoothly. However, he said long lead times – for example 14 years to build the first submarine – and a budget contingency of 50 per cent in the $368 billion AUKUS price tag to cover cost overruns gave him comfort. “We have to be prepared for setbacks. We have to be prepared for contingency plans,” he said. “We think we’ve made a good balance on achievable dates targets. It is high risk but we have built in contingency along the way.” https://lnkd.in/gVNzZewb

Earlier this month, the aviation world was rocked with the revelation that the SM-6 air defense missile, previously used to arm warships, had made its way to arm Navy F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighters. The result was suddenly the world’s longest-range air-to-air missile, outdistancing its Russian and Chinese counterparts by a wide margin. The missile’s success will likely lead to other pairings that take advantage of America’s deep arsenal of high-tech weapons. The SM-6, developed for Navy warships, has a range of about 275 miles. That’s three times greater than the publicly stated range of AMRAAM, the U.S. Military’s current long range missile. China’s longest range air-to-air missile, the PL-15 (“Thunderbolt-15”) has a range of about 186 miles. https://lnkd.in/gHCQXab5

In a surprise move, the former White House security adviser will join the “formidable team” announced Tuesday to lead Britain’s Strategic Defense Review. Her appointment is the latest indication that the newly elected Labour government is keen to make inroads with Republicans ahead of the increasingly likely prospect of a Trump victory in the U.S. election in November. A British-born Russia expert, Hill served as a national security adviser to the former president for two years until 2019. The daughter of a coal miner from the northeast of England, Hill moved to the U.S. to study her post-graduate degree in Russian at Harvard and later worked as an intelligence analyst under both the Bush and Obama administrations before being hired to work for Trump. Since leaving the White House, she has continued to be an influential voice on Vladimir Putin's Russia, last year telling POLITICO that the war in Ukraine is a "proxy war against the United States." https://lnkd.in/gATbsQnF

“We send a message to the region that if competition is to escalate into crisis, we can respond,” said Darwin’s 1st Brigade commander Brigadier Doug Pashley. While flying activity Exercise Pitch Black 24 entertains locals from the sky, on the ground about 3000 troops will operate by day and night in the bushland as part of Exercise Predators Run – a land-based military activity featuring both Australian and international troops. UK commando force commander Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Denning said his troops were relishing at the “amazing opportunities” that awaited them in the bush. “We’ve got aviation assets, we’ve got the surface manoeuvre craft and of course we’ve got the commandos on the ground as well.” #AUKUS 🇦🇺🇬🇧🇺🇸 Read https://lnkd.in/gY_d_VU2
