Despite what you might hear from anti-mining groups, the Flambeau Mine out of Ladysmith, Wisconsin was a success and is a great example of responsible industry. The Flambeau Mine was a Copper mine and it was located along the shores of the Flambeau River and operated from 1993 to 1997 and finished reclamation by 1999. Flambeau was the first mine to earn permits and operate under Wisconsin’s stringent mining laws. The WDNR holds Flambeau as an example of a successful operation and successful closure. The reclaimed site is now home to acres of wetlands, hundreds of species of plants and animals, miles of hiking trails, and five miles of equestrian trails open to the public year-round. "Rather than relying on our own Montana mines to provide palladium, the Biden-Harris administration is allowing critical mineral imports from Russia, which is costing Montana jobs and funding Russia’s unjust war against Ukraine. There is no reason the United States should be importing critical minerals that we can find right here at home." Steve Daines - U.S. Senator from Montana Read more below:

China is set to announce export controls on antimony tomorrow, capping off a crazy 30-day period for the mineral, which has been designated as critical by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Just weeks after China’s August 15th export control announcement, Perpetua Resources received a favorable draft record of decision from the U.S. Forest Service, a major milestone for the Stibnite project after eight years of permitting. This decision not only benefits Stibnite but also strengthens U.S. national security—a development that couldn't have come at a better time.

“Achieving increased domestic mineral production that is both environmentally sustainable and socially responsible will require innovation across the entire mining value chain. To meet this challenge, we must develop an interdisciplinary workforce capable of designing and implementing new approaches to mineral exploration, mine production, processing, and reclamation.” Elizabeth Holley - Associate Professor of Mining Engineering at Colorado School of Mines Read more below:

Pinal County, AZ is on the cusp of an economic surge, driven by several large-scale copper mining projects. In addition to Resolution Copper's proposed mine, the county is home to Arizona Sonoran Copper Company Inc. (ASCU:TSX | ASCUF:OTCQX)’s Cactus Mine, Florence Copper's fully permitted copper project, and Faraday Copper’s proposed Copper Creek project. Together, these four developments have the potential to significantly boost U.S. copper production, with projected copper production numbers suggesting they could supply over 30% of the nation's copper demand with Resolution accounting for the lion share. This expansion in the copper industry is expected to generate thousands of high-paying jobs, fueling economic growth throughout the Copper state and providing a major boost to the region’s economy. The combination of increased copper output and job creation positions Pinal County as a key player in meeting the growing demand for copper, particularly in industries like renewable energy, electronics, artificial intelligence, and national defense.

Yesterday, the House Committee on Natural Resources, chaired by Bruce Westerman from Arkansas' 4th Congressional District, conducted a full legislative hearing on three bills concerning the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). These bills aim to amend and update NEPA by: ✅Addressing issues that have caused extended project timelines and increased litigation ✅ Reducing the level of analysis required in agency documents, ✅ Clarifying the conditions that trigger NEPA reviews, ✅ Setting clear limits and timelines for judicial review, ✅ Increasing transparency by requiring the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to publish an annual report on NEPA projects & their outcomes. "I commend Chairman Westerman and the House Committee on Natural Resources for their tireless efforts on federal permitting reform. A recent S&P Global report showed that it can take nearly 30 years to permit a mine from discovery to operation. Reform is essential if we are to strengthen critical mineral supply chains domestically and boost copper production through great projects like Resolution Copper's proposed mine, NewRange Copper Nickel's NorthMet project and Twin Metals Minnesota LLC's proposed Copper-Nickel-Cobalt mine to name a few. Permitting reform benefits rural communities, national security, and the environment alike." "As mineral demand soars, and we struggle to reclaim mineral security, confronting the China threat will require a comprehensive approach. Partnerships with allies will be key, as will innovative technology solutions and mineral recycling. But ramping up domestic mineral production, and the processing of America’s vast resources, must be the centerpiece of this effort." In this week's video, we're back with Rio Tinto to explore their tailings operation, a key component to their Kennecott Utah Copper Mine. In a previous video, we explored the copper mining process from A to Z. But what happens with all the ore that isn't the copper, gold, silver, and other metals they're after? This video has the answer! Click the link below to watch! A HUGE thank you to the teams at Rio Tinto Kennecott and Ames Construction for making this happen! https://lnkd.in/gW9VzC79
