Inspiring and enabling the kids who need us most to reach their potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens
About us
Our mission is to enable young people who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. BGCNEO focuses on three impact areas: Academic Success: We promote education as an essential tool for adult achievement. Programs seek to increase graduation rates, decrease school absenteeism, and encourage kids to create post-secondary goals through teaching basic educational disciplines, technology, and the arts. Character & Citizenship: This impact area focuses on developing young leaders who engage themselves in their communities. We provide key programs that foster character development, healthy interpersonal relationships, and emphasize contributing to the community. Healthy Lifestyles: This impact area encourages children to reach their full potential through making positive choices that nurture their minds, bodies, and spirits. We encourage our Club members to set goals, avoid risky behavior, and engage in physical activity. We remember that the decisions children make today impact their future success.

Jaylen Mays of the King Kennedy Club witnessed one of the most thrilling baseball games ever, thanks to a ticket donation from STRAUSS America. In a drawing, Jaylen won four tickets to Thursday's Cleveland Guardians-New York Yankees Amercian League Championship Series game, a 7-5 walkoff win for the good guys. Thanks so much to Strauss America (you'll see their logo on ALCS batting helmets) for thinking of our kids!

BGCNEO is proud to partner with Hathaway Brown’s GROW Program. GROW (Girls Reaching Others Worldwide) is a student-run foundation dedicated to raising money, participating in service projects, and awarding grants to nonprofit organizations. GROW’s foundation has consistently supported the Clubs since 2017. Our Manager of Volunteer Engagement, Adria Chavers, recently had the opportunity to speak with Hathaway Brown students about BGCNEO and the ways they can get involved.

Congratulations to BGCNEO CEO Allen Smith, who has been named one of 2024's Notable Black Leaders by Crain's Cleveland Business. Allen, who was a Club kid growing up in Toledo, has spent more than 32 years in the Boys & Girls Clubs movement and now heads the largest Club organization in Ohio. He will be recognized at an event tomorrow in Cleveland. Thank you, Allen, for your service to our kids!

Our generous sponsors helped make last week's Boys & Girls Clubs Day of Giving 2024, sponsored by Oswald Companies, a huge success. The event raised more than $197,000 from 250 donors. This revenue will allow us to serve more kids as we try to bridge a funding gap. A special shoutout goes to Oswald, which not only sponsored the telethon but donated $10,000, WKYC Studios and the Callahan Foundation, which provided a $50,000 match. Event sponsorships were critical to the success of the telethon and we thank those who stepped up for our kids.

Kayra, the Assistant Club Director at our Desich Family Campus in Lorain, hails from Fajardo, Puerto Rico and is proud of her heritage. She says Hispanic Heritage Month is important to the Latino community. “It has impacted us in various ways – the parades, traditional music, dance performances, local cuisines and the island’s unique blend on the cultural heritage,” she says. The 5-year BGCNEO employee has two beautiful children and enjoys playing softball and volleyball. BGCNEO celebrates Kayra and all other employees of Hispanic descent.
