Americans sure love their media. Just finished reading EMARKETER's latest "US Time Spent With Media Report," here are my top three takeaways: 1) We consume A LOT of media. With ~12.5 hours spent per day, the average American is spending 75% of their waking hours consuming content. 2) The Big Screen still takes the cake. While the narrative is that Traditional TV is in decline, it still leads the pack for time spent. Even more, if you look at Traditional TV and CTV together, time spent consuming media on a shared Household-level device represents over 5 hours or 41% of media time spent (vs 4 hours or 32% on mobile devices). 3) Growth and declines are coming from surprising places. NBCUniversal's #Peacock is poised to grow fastest amongst the OTT platforms this year due to the Olympics. But Social Networks are seeing their first ever declines(!). 🍎 It's Back to School season and Blockgraph is proud to be participating in The Child Center of NY's Annual #BackpackDrive24 for the 2nd year! Families with children in elementary through high school plan to spend close to $900 on school items for the 2024-25 school year — a cost that increases every year. Blockgraph wants to help by collecting school supply donations that we will use later this month to assemble and prepare backpacks that will be distributed to the families in need all around NYC. How can you help? Purchase the requested school supplies and have them shipped to the Blockgraph HQ in NYC. We've gone ahead and created an Amazon Wish List to make this easier, but feel free to purchase from your preferred retailer. Donations will be accepted through August 19. Our goal is to pack at least 100 backpacks for donation, and we'd greatly appreciate any and all contributions to our goal. Over the past two days, Blockgraph successfully hosted our inaugural Hackathon! Our team members were divided into five cross-functional groups and given free reign to innovate solutions to real challenges. After 1.5 days of intense brainstorming and development, each team presented their ideas, complete with working demos, to a panel of judges. Once again, Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity was a great event filled with many great client meetings & dinners, impromptu run-ins, and frank discussions. If you get the chance to go, I highly recommend it. It truly remains our industry's best event. But despite all the chatter you'll hear this week, Cannes is NOT the place where the future is being created. The future isn't crafted at Villas, on Beach Lounges, or inside expensive pop-up tents. The future is being developed on whiteboards and napkins, in meetings between customer & tech teams to discuss ways to solve pain points, and in the minds of the many creative folks of our industry who REFUSE to accept the status quo. It's being created in the garages of talented entrepreneurs playing around with LLMs, privacy-enhancing tech, and novel ways to approach the intersection of entertainment, data, and distribution. So, while I'll certainly miss the croissants, weather and laid back life on the Riviera, I'm more excited to put my nose to the grindstone with our incredible employees, partners and customers to create the future of connected TV platforms.
