Boom Supersonic

Boom is supersonic. On January 28, 2025 at 8:31am PST / 16:31 GMT, XB-1 broke the sound barrier. Chief Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg safely and successfully achieved supersonic speed in XB-1, the first civil supersonic jet made in America. ✅New top speed: Mach 1.122 (652 KTAS) ✅New max altitude: 35,290 ft. ✅Flight time: 34 minutes ✅Airspace: Bell X-1 Supersonic Corridor and the Black Mountain Supersonic Corridor in Mojave, CA XB-1 demonstrates that Boom has the team, technology, and tools to deliver supersonic commercial travel with Overture, cutting travel times in half. JALがパートナーシップを結ぶBOOM社は現地時間1月28日(日本時間29日)、超音速飛行の技術実証機「XB-1」による初の超音速飛行を実施し、JALの担当チームもこの歴史的な瞬間に立ち会いに行って参りました✨ 🛫 33分間の飛行の中で3回の超音速飛行を成功させ、最高速度はマッハ1.122を記録しました。 これにより、BOOM社は米国で初めて民間機による超音速飛行を実現したことになり、歴史的な快挙を成し遂げました🎉 超音速旅客機が実現すれば、目的地まで約半分の時間での移動が可能になります✨ BOOM社による”超音速旅客機”への可能性の追求を通じて、お客さまへの従来とは全く違う”時間”を提供できる未来を創造すべく、JALは今後も協力してまいります。 On January 28th (January 29th Japan time), BOOM conducted the first supersonic flight with its supersonic flight technology demonstration aircraft "XB-1", and the JAL team was on hand to witness this historic moment!!✨ 🛫 Three supersonic flights were successfully completed during the 33-minute flight, with a top speed of Mach 1.122.🎉 This made BOOM the first commercial aircraft in the U.S. to achieve supersonic flight, a historic feat! XB-1 represents a career milestone for Boom team members. Ruslan Pshichenko had a bird’s eye view of its development in the hangar and in-flight. “I started as an intern back in college and got to see this airplane put together, which I’m incredibly proud of. During flight test, I’m the photographer in the back seat of the T-38. Capturing photos of XB-1 as it flies through the sky is definitely a highlight of my career.“—Ruslan Pshichenko, Flight Test Maintenance Engineer

Think XB-1 is all work and no play? Think again. “The XB-1 team is unique and cool because of the team culture we have. We like to work hard but we also like to play hard—and play pickleball together.”—Chieri Kamada, Avionics Engineer (who plays pickleball with the XB-1 team the day before each test flight)
