Breaking barriers: On this day in 1969, Concorde 001 flew supersonic for the first time during its 45th test flight. The aircraft attained a speed of Mach 1.5 (1,125 mph) and flew supersonically for nine minutes. Fast forward to today: XB-1 prepares for its fifth test flight on its way to supersonic flight planned for later this year.
