In late September, Capella was tasked with capturing imagery after heavy rains triggered significant flooding along the Oder River, marking a crucial moment for near real-time, high-resolution monitoring in Central Europe. To capture the flood extent efficiently, we tasked a Spotlight Wide collect along the Oder River on the Germany-Poland border. By using only 10 collections at a 1.0-meter resolution, we covered 160 km of river valley—providing broader, high-quality coverage with fewer images. With four designated Areas of Interest (AOIs) along the river, we captured data across successive dates, from Sept 25 to Sept 29, leveraging our orbital variations to optimize coverage along this winding river. A big thanks to Sybrand van Beijma and the team for their swift efforts to support ground teams in managing the impacts of this flood event. #CapellaSpace #SAR #EarthObservation

The competition is still running, day by day SAR imagery providers are innovating and building a new radar remote sensing capabilities, certifying a specific bandwidth range, increasing staring time to have more pure and higher SAR ground resolution, increasing the fleet number within the SAR constellation, struggling to have Near Real-Time imaging availability.
