"Open letter to African Ministers of Finance by mayors and governors of African cities“ 🌍 African mayors call for climate action – another powerful signal of the need to tackle climate change in Africa, together! More than 300 African city leaders, policymakers, and investors have signed an open letter urging stronger climate commitments and increased financing for sustainable cities. As urban populations in Africa rapidly grow, the call for resilient, low-carbon infrastructure is more urgent than ever. Here are the key takeaways from the open letter and public call to action: 1️⃣ Financing for sustainable cities: Mayors highlight the need for better access to funding for green projects, from public transportation to renewable energy. 2️⃣ Local leadership for global impact: African cities are leading the charge, proving that urban climate solutions must be driven locally but supported globally. 3️⃣ Opportunities for innovation: This push for sustainable urbanization creates space for start-ups, investors, and climate innovators to develop new solutions for Africa’s cities. At CATAL1.5°T, we fully agree with the transformative role cities and local action play in the fight against climate change. We are committed to supporting SMEs, start-ups, investors, support organizations, and innovators in West Africa to solve climate challenges. 📄 You can read the mayors’ open letter here: https://lnkd.in/gUadNhbA #CatalyseClimateTech #ClimateTech #SustainableCities #Africa #Innovation Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) Green Climate Fund Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH Climate KIC Investisseurs & Partenaires - I&P

🏦🔑 At CATAL1.5°T, we know that funding is key to unlocking innovation. The lack of benchmarks for SME fund performance is a challenge that directly affects access to funding in Africa – especially for climate tech, where investment is critical to scaling solutions. That’s why research like this from @Investisseurs & Partenaires - I&P and @Argidius Foundation is so important. By providing data-driven insights, it strengthens the investment ecosystem and helps mobilize capital where it is needed most. 👏 Congratulations on the release of the report: "How Can African SME Funds Mobilize More Capital? Data and Lessons from Pioneering LPs and GPs." We can only recommend reading it! #CatalyseClimateTech #ClimateAction #Innovation #Sustainability #ClimateFunding Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) Green Climate Fund Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH Climate KIC Investisseurs & Partenaires - I&P Make-IT-in-Africa GIZ African Union GIZ Togo GIZ Senegal, Gambia, Cabo Verde GIZ Nigeria & ECOWAS GIZ Côte d'Ivoire GIZ Burkina Faso GIZ Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea
Our ecosystem suffers from a significant gap in aggregated data regarding SME fund returns, fund models and fund structures, resulting in a critical lack of benchmarks for LPs to rely on. To address this, I&P and the Argidius Foundation launched together a research project aiming at providing comprehensive insights on SME funds across the continent. Over the last six months, I&P conducted an extensive quantitative and qualitative study, analyzing more than 135 SME funds and conducting interviews with over 35 stakeholders in the SME fund ecosystem, including both LPs and GPs. We are thrilled to release the results of this effort in our latest publication: "How Can African SME Funds Mobilize More Capital? Data and Lessons from Pioneering LPs and GPs." 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 The report delivers actionable insights, including: - A thorough analysis of SME fund performance, models and structures across Africa - A deep dive into the current fundraising environment for SME funds - Practical examples on how LPs and GPs successfully navigate systemic and fundraising barriers to make impactful investments in SMEs. 𝐅𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞: 𝐋𝐏𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐏𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 This publication marks a first step in advancing a learning agenda focused on improving access to capital for African SME funds. Our objective is to kickstart a conversation with LPs and GPs, and we are starting on Thursday with a dialogue featuring: - Zee de Gersigny, Investment Head at FSD Africa (LP perspective) - Anne Njuki, Managing Director at Sayuni Capital (GP perspective) Moderated by Aissatou Gaye, Investment Manager at I&P, and Marianne Vidal-Marin, Director at I&P Conseil. 🗓️ 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟑𝟎, 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 for a deeper discussion: https://lnkd.in/dzTsqMtv ⬇️ 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 : https://lnkd.in/dbGqkxum Argidius Foundation Marianne Vidal-Marin Hugues Vincent-Genod Aissatou Gaye Julie Rouxel Zee de Gersigny Anne Njuki
