Where climate challenges are fuelling significant change and opportunities: Latin America's leading path to a greener future 🌱 ⚠️ Latin American and Caribbean countries are highly exposed to extreme weather events. A reality that threatens food security, economic stability, and the well-being of millions. The urgency for climate adaptation and resilience-building has never been greater. 📈Yet, Latin America is not just on the front line of climate risks – it is also emerging as a leading region in climate solutions. Especially in the energy sector, where the share of renewable energies is far above the global average, which in turn is attracting record investments. From regenerative agriculture to circular economy models and biodiversity-driven innovations, the region is proving that sustainability is more than a necessity. It’s a strategic advantage. Latin America’s climate potential: 🌱 A powerhouse for nature-based solutions, leveraging rich biodiversity to drive carbon sequestration and conservation-led economies. 🔋 A rapidly growing renewable energy sector, already among the cleanest in the world, with significant capacity for expansion. ♻️ An evolving circular economy, reducing waste and pioneering sustainable supply chains that could serve as global models. The region’s climate future will be shaped by innovation. Climate tech has the potential to bridge the gap between climate risk and economic opportunity, making resilience not just an environmental imperative, but a long-term investment strategy. #CatalyseClimateTech #ClimateTech #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #LATAM #Innovation The regional CATAL1.5°T platform in Latin America is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH in cooperation with Tecnológico de Monterrey and Climate KIC. "Open letter to African Ministers of Finance by mayors and governors of African cities“ 🌍 African mayors call for climate action – another powerful signal of the need to tackle climate change in Africa, together! More than 300 African city leaders, policymakers, and investors have signed an open letter urging stronger climate commitments and increased financing for sustainable cities. As urban populations in Africa rapidly grow, the call for resilient, low-carbon infrastructure is more urgent than ever. Here are the key takeaways from the open letter and public call to action: 1️⃣ Financing for sustainable cities: Mayors highlight the need for better access to funding for green projects, from public transportation to renewable energy. 2️⃣ Local leadership for global impact: African cities are leading the charge, proving that urban climate solutions must be driven locally but supported globally. 3️⃣ Opportunities for innovation: This push for sustainable urbanization creates space for start-ups, investors, and climate innovators to develop new solutions for Africa’s cities. At CATAL1.5°T, we fully agree with the transformative role cities and local action play in the fight against climate change. We are committed to supporting SMEs, start-ups, investors, support organizations, and innovators in West Africa to solve climate challenges. 📄 You can read the mayors’ open letter here: https://lnkd.in/gUadNhbA #CatalyseClimateTech #ClimateTech #SustainableCities #Africa #Innovation Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) Green Climate Fund Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH Climate KIC Investisseurs & Partenaires - I&P
