🌍 Updates from COP29: Key outcomes for climate finance and action 🚀 The Green Climate Fund (GCF), our funding partner, had an eventful COP29 and has shared a summary of the insights from Baku, where the stage for the next decade of climate action has been set. 🎉 One major outcome is the agreement on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), which aims to triple climate finance for developing countries to USD 300 billion annually by 2035. This commitment is crucial for fostering equity and addressing the needs of the most vulnerable regions. 👏 Additionally, GCF’s role has been further strengthened, reaffirming its central position in delivering resources that help developing nations tackle climate challenges while advancing economic development. The outcomes are invaluable for climate action, particularly in regions like West Africa and Latin America, where increased funding can catalyse transformative change. For climate tech innovators, this marks an unprecedented opportunity to drive solutions that address local challenges while contributing to global climate goals. 📄 Read the full GCF summary here: https://lnkd.in/eDuCB4HP How do you see this new climate finance goal impacting the future of climate innovation in the Global South? ♀️ A sobering reality: female founders continue to face significant barriers in securing investment, despite having businesses that are more secure investments due to their profitability. In the first three quarters of 2024, just $135.8 million of the $33.5 billion invested in U.S. climate tech startups went to those led by women. 💪 These insights underscore an urgent need for action – and only strengthen our resolve to create space for women’s leadership in climate tech. We aim to promote and empower female founders and innovators, turning challenges into opportunities. Recently, the CATAL1.5°T West Africa Platform achieved a significant milestone with the programme UX in Climate. 80 women were trained in UX methodologies to tackle climate challenges, collaborated in teams to develop innovative, community-focused solutions, and are now prepared to scale their ideas through an acceleration process. ✨ Together, these women form a growing network of change-makers, ready to drive meaningful climate action in their regions. 📄 Read more about UX in Climate here: https://lnkd.in/gwj9kMc2 #CatalyseClimateTech #ClimateUXInitiative #WomenInClimate #UXinClimate Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) Green Climate Fund Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH Climate-KIC Investisseurs & Partenaires - I&P Make-IT-in-Africa GIZ African Union GIZ Togo GIZ Senegal, Gambia, Cabo Verde GIZ Nigeria & ECOWAS GIZ Côte d'Ivoire GIZ Burkina Faso GIZ Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea
