✂️ The community came out to celebrate Sunnyvale, CA's new headworks and primary treatment facility. ✨ The new headworks and primary treatment facility is part of Sunnyvale’s $1.3B Cleanwater Program, which includes a complete reconstruction of the WPCP. This 25-year program is the biggest capital endeavor Sunnyvale has ever undertaken, and includes more than 20 projects to be completed over five phases. The headworks and primary treatment facility is part of Phase 1 of the program and is the first of the projects with a value over $100M. How does a state quantify and reduce its carbon emissions? Our #sustainability experts helped two state DOTs crack the case. 🕵️ The 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) required each state to develop a Carbon Reduction Strategy. This was an entirely new requirement with no precedent or template to work from. CDM Smith devised and proposed a novel approach to develop the CRS based on the #TripleBottomLine analytical framework. The team identified established carbon reduction strategies through an extensive literature review and research effort, resulting in a detailed comprehensive collection of data. They were then able to subsequently define emission sources and adapt tools from various disciplines to measure the statewide transportation #carbonfootprint and #emissionsreduction potential of proposed initiatives. As key team member Jane Cloninger explains, “Each potential carbon reduction initiative underwent a detailed analysis to describe its cost, carbon reduction potential and other environmental traits like land use and climate resiliency, and social impacts such as impacts to public transportation accessibility or environmental justice. This innovative process has been carried forward into many projects because it's so adaptive. 🚨 New #EPA Proposed Rules for #PFAS Under #RCRA: What You Need to Know! 🚨 https://bit.ly/3A69i8r 🧪Developments are underway as the EPA moves to regulate #PFAS under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (#RCRA). Here’s what you need to know: 🔹 Nine PFAS Compounds: These will be added to the list of RCRA hazardous constituents, targeting over 1,700 facilities for new corrective actions. 🔹 Stricter Regulations: The EPA aims to amend hazardous waste definitions, enhancing their ability to tackle PFAS contamination. 💪 The EPA plans to finalize these rules by July 2025.💧Read the full proposal: https://bit.ly/3A69i8r

💧 Turning seawater into drinking water for one of the most water-starved countries on Earth with the Aqaba Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project: https://lnkd.in/e3A6Rkdx 🚧 USAID and CDM Smith are helping to secure Jordan’s water supply by making critical water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades. Desalinated sea water from the Gulf of Aqaba will be treated at a 300 MCM per year capacity plant featuring a 450 kilometer conveyance system. The project will supply Amman and governorates along the conveyance route with 250 MCM per year, with the remaining 50 MCM per year planned for Aqaba and the south Wadi Araba area. CDM Smith provides technical, financial, and legal services as USAID’s implementing partner for this build-operate-transfer contract. 🌍 The project has also taken on climate change priorities to limit greenhouse gas emissions from the power consumption by introducing a renewable energy generation facility.
