The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We provide direct care for those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. CVT's mission is to heal the wounds of torture on individuals, their families and their communities and to end torture worldwide. CVT is headquartered in St. Paul, MN. In the US, we have offices in Washington DC and Atlanta. We also have offices in Jordan, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.

The final day of the North American Refugee Health Conference (#NARHC) was a great success! Here are a couple highlights: A special session was held on asylum medicine called “Meet your (Asylum Medicine) Mentors,” which included Leora Hudak from CVT along with colleagues Katherine McKenzie, Eleanor Emery and Triveni Defries. Alison Beckman & Katherine McKenzie presented on “How to Be an Advocate for Migrants.” And members of the CVT Proyecto Mariposa team were on hand from Tucson, including Gabriela Rosales Clark, Arielle Guerrero and Leora, along with Nargis Nasari from the Arman project at CVT Georgia. CVT’s Dr. Adaobi Iheduru, Psy.D. speaks on “Combatting Intergenerational Trauma: School-Based Mental Health Groups with Immigrant Children.” She notes the importance of working with middle school-age refugee children, who experience stress and other emotions differently from each other, helping them identify their leadership skills.
