Walking the line of advocacy, tech, and online organizing to take down the patriarchy, one product at a time🤪
Such an honor to be celebrated alongside so many health equity advocates. My first *real* job was canvassing for universisal health care at Washington Community Action Network over a decade ago. To this day I still stop for canvassers and give them a donation because it's one of the hardest jobs I ever had😅 I was radicalized very young to understand how most systems in the US, including healthcare, are capital centered rather than patient centered. These become systems that overlook those most in need, and that's exactly what is happening with abortion care in the US. It's such a full circle moment for me as I work with seasoned abortion experts, innovators, and most importantly disruptors, like Amy J. Merrill who is also an honoree 🤪on improving abortion access, especially for those in banned and restricted states. Building Chat With Charley alongside the team and literally hundreds of advocates and partners over the past year has been the most meaningful working experience of my life. Much of this is because our core mission has been to center the abortion seeker, not companies, not capital, not the government! I'm so grateful to be in this work 🫶🏽

Cecile Richards is a hero for so many of us. She's supported and pushed our leadership and shared her wisdom generously. She's fought for women's rights and changed history. Even as she is staring death in the eyes, she is brave and inspiring. Just look at how she’s marched full speed ahead at building Chat With Charley to help tackle the current crisis of misinformation and abortion bans since Dobbs. At every stage of my own career over the past decade or so, I’ve counted on Cecile’s advice and mentorship. There are so many things I wouldn’t have done without her love and encouragement. And I know I am far from the only one. Thank you, Cecile. Your leadership and guidance means the world to so many of us.

My first op-ed for Marie Claire: I outline how abortion bans disproportionately hurt black, brown, and indigenous people, those with low incomes, immigrants, and mothers —many of the same groups that already have the hardest time accessing health care, and how intentional tech can play a pivotal role in accessing equitable and safe access to abortions. In the absence of 'Roe's protections, tech like the Chat With Charley can step in to support abortion seekers find options in banned and restricted states and connect them to resources like Plan C Pills , ineedana.com , and m+a hotline. Thank you to the team at WLDFLWR for the opportunity 💖Catherine Cuello-Fuente https://lnkd.in/eUdwHMSE
