Join Global Book Alliance at #CIES2025 for a panel discussion on the impact of sustainable book supply chain on improving foundational learning and literacy. The panel featuring Sergio Ramírez-Mena from GBA, Julie Donohue-Kpolugbo from CODE, Christabel Pinto from Room to Read and Roel de Haas from Haas and Associates will address how books in the hands of learners and schools catalyze change as an essential right to more affordable quality books in schools. The panels will highlight approaches to the different aspects of the book supply chain based on research and lessons learned from several initiatives to better understand opportunities and challenges in this space using digital technology. The presentations will share lessons learned, best practices and key considerations to improve the modern digital dimension of the book supply chain systems, which in turn will make access to age-appropriate and relevant books more equitable for learners across the globe. Continuously published since 1900 by Teachers College, Columbia University, TCR welcomes empirical, critical, methodological, and theoretical disciplinary and interdisciplinary scholarship that emphasizes the intersections between education research and other fields, raises new questions, and develops innovative approaches to our understanding of pressing issues. TCR invites research from international scholars who illuminate productive counterpoints to the mainstream U.S. experience and provide new ways of thinking, seeing, and being in conversation with each other about the past, present, and future.

#CIES2025 attendees are invited to attend the workshop: Building a Culturally Responsive and Expansive Girls' Education Ecosystem: Demonstrating a Participatory Community-Driven Approach. Date: Sunday, March 23, 2025 Time: 9:45 to 11:00 am CT Place: Palmer House, 3rd Floor, Salon 6 This workshop aims to engage a participatory, collaborative process of working towards a collective goal of formulating an action plan for establishing a gender-transformative educational (GTE) ecosystem focusing on rural and historically marginalized communities. Through group discussions, small group work, and dialogue, participants will think through the perspectives of government officials, researchers, educators, community organizations, and families and formulate a strategy to enhance learning for girls. In doing so, they will examine methods to deliver consistent, community-driven educational experiences for girls across their K-12 schooling journey, leveraging at-scale systems while emphasizing community-led initiatives, comprehensive educator training, intergenerational involvement, and advocacy for GTE as a priority. At the same time, they will understand and draw insights from the process of working in a diverse collaborative to advocate for equitable transformative education systems. This workshop would be particularly useful for those interested or involved in gender and education, systemic transformation, participatory and co-design research methods, and community-centered and culturally responsive approaches to learning.
