On September 16th, we partnered with The Learning Generation Initiative to host an insightful webinar on innovative pedagogies for foundational learning. This session provided a platform to share findings from a study on inclusive, engaging, and adaptive (IEA) pedagogies, piloted in #Ghana, #Kenya and #Rwanda. One of the highlights was the passionate appeal by Ghana’s Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who urged for a change in the narrative, where the continent is no longer defined by its learning crisis but by action-driven solutions. This marks a critical step forward as policymakers commit to reversing learning poverty across Africa. 👉 Follow the link below to get more insights from Dr. Adutwum’s speech at the event. https://lnkd.in/dfwWFn8d #FoundationalLearning #InnovativePedagogies #LearningCrisis #EducationInAfrica

🌍✨ A big thank you to everyone who joined us at the #UNGA side event this week; "Scaling Success: Advancing Foundational Literacy and Numeracy through Partnerships and Innovation in Africa". We are proud to have supported this inspiring gathering, which brought together passionate minds to tackle one of the most critical challenges of our time – ensuring every child has access to quality foundational learning. Co-hosted by Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and the African Union, and supported by technical partners such as VVOB, Teaching at the Right Level Africa, UNICEF, and Human Capital Africa, the event highlighted innovative approaches and successful partnerships that are driving meaningful progress in foundational learning across Africa. At the Hempel Foundation, we believe that foundational literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for a brighter future. That’s why we are deeply committed to supporting initiatives that create lasting change in education, particularly in regions where it is needed the most. Together, through partnerships and innovation, we can empower the next generation with the skills they need to succeed. Thank you for being part of this important conversation! 🌱📚 #UNGA #UNGA2024 #ScalingSuccess #FoundationalLiteracy #LearningCrisis #EducationForAll #AcceleratingChangeTogether #ACT Kakula Wandi Tom Vandenbosch, Naomi Goldschmidt, Anna Carmen Murru, Stefaan Vande Walle, Alia Karim, Anna Mølgaard Thaysen, Chinedu Anarado, Fumiaki Sagisaka, Jacqueline Jere-Folotiya, Naila Butt, Santos Akhilele, Titus Syengo, Victoria Egbetayo, Erica Gerretsen, Conrad Sackey, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Pia Rebello Britto, Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili

"The future we dream of for Africa—a future of innovation, prosperity, and global influence—begins in the classroom, with a child learning to read and count. Let us commit today to make that future a reality." - Dr Joyce Banda, Former President of Malawi. These words perfectly capture the essence of our side event on #FoundationalLearning earlier this week at #UNGA2024. Honoured to team up with Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), Hempel Foundation, Teaching at the Right Level Africa, Human Capital Africa, African Union, European Commission and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Together, we highlighted the importance of scaling proven interventions and increasing investments in #literacy, #numeracy, and socio-emotional learning to secure a brighter future for learners in Africa. Thank you to everyone who joined us! We are confident this event will lead to ongoing collaboration and dialogue on the importance of foundational learning. #UNGA #SDG4 #SEL #FNL Tom Vandenbosch, Naomi Goldschmidt, Anna Carmen Murru, Stefaan Vande Walle, Kakula Wandi, Alia Karim, Anna Mølgaard Thaysen, Chinedu Anarado, Fumiaki Sagisaka, Jacqueline Jere-Folotiya, Naila Butt, Santos Akhilele, Tim Newbold, Titus Syengo, Victoria Egbetayo, Erica Gerretsen, Conrad Sackey, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Pia Rebello Britto Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili

🎓 The African Centre for School Leadership (ACSL) just concluded the two-day conference to close the foundational phase of the initiative, in Kigali Rwanda! 🇷🇼 The event brought together education policymakers from 12 African countries and leading global partners from ADEA, Mastercard Foundation, VVOB, and Education Sub Saharan Africa (ESSA) to discuss the critical role of school leadership in shaping the future of education in Africa. Here are some key insights from our speakers: Dr. Abdishakur Tarah (PhD): "Leadership in conflict and emergency contexts is key to creating stability and progress." Prof. Nkobi Owen Pansiri: "Africa is a battlefield of ideas. We need research that is coming out of Africa." Albert Nsengiyumva, Executive Secretary of ADEA: "Research is about learning, and leadership is about developing emotional intelligence to allow you to learn from yourself." As we close this foundational stage, let's embrace the urgency to adapt and innovate. Let ACSL's vision expand beyond the 12 countries, bringing the whole of Africa into this journey of educational transformation. 🌍 #SchoolLeadership #AfricaEducation #ACSL #EducationalTransformation #LeadershipMatters
