We are happy to share Virginia Tech's new Upper Quad Residence Hall! Designed to support the growth of the Corps of Cadets to 1,400 students, this stunning Collegiate Gothic building offers 302 cadet beds and a host of modern amenities. The exteriors feature iconic Hokie stone with precast concrete accents and heraldry elements that celebrate the rich history of the Corps and the University. Inside, traditional dormitory-style rooms with double and triple occupancy are complemented by a variety of common spaces like floor lounges, a group kitchen, and a mud room. The design focuses on creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, with light hues inspired by cadet uniforms and engaging color accents in public spaces. We are proud to have contributed to the transformation of the Upper Quad and support the mission of the Corps of Cadets. 📸 Cameron Triggs #GoHokies #VirginiaTech #UpperQuad #CorpsOfCadet #StudentLifeDesign

In times of crisis, communities reveal their true strength. We're humbled to see a few of our projects take on new meaning amidst this time of need. These buildings, designed for everyday use and community engagement, are now providing shelter, acting as supply distribution centers, and offering comfort to those affected by the recent hurricane. It's a great reminder of how our shared spaces can adapt to support us in challenging times. 📸 : Mark Herboth

Go Bengals! This mural of the Fuquay-Varina Middle School mascot was recently installed at their new campus. Black, orange, and grey stripes mimic the Bengal's coat and intersect with its image, resulting in a bold display of color and school pride. Designed to accommodate 1,450 students, the Bengals’ new home meets the educational needs of the rapidly growing city of Fuquay-Varina, NC. The design of the school centers on creating an inviting community-based learning environment that will strengthen students’ social and academic experiences. Students, staff, and visitors will be welcomed with an open, light-filled two-story lobby, which offers wayfinding to classroom wings and administrative offices. Classroom wings with break-out and collaboration spaces were designed to foster smaller communities and encourage students to work together and build strong connections. Additionally, the design incorporates alternative educational settings through outdoor classrooms and an amphitheater. On this last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, as Western North Carolina and other states grapple with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and Milton, we're reminded that our heritage can be our strength in times of hardship. Asheville-based architect Johanna Spindola shares how her Hispanic roots helped get her through Hurricane Helene. Her community's resilience, care, and generosity remind us of the power of cultural traditions and coming together. Last week, our team proudly sponsored the ViBe Creative District Mural Festival in Virginia Beach. We had the privilege of meeting with several talented artists to discuss the inspiration behind ten new murals that will soon enhance the district's vibrant landscape. The ViBe Creative District is transforming an underutilized area into a beautiful, walkable community showcasing unique art and local businesses. This initiative has breathed new life into the Virginia Beach oceanfront, with local property owners personally selecting mural artists from an impressive pool of over 700 candidates. Our Infrastructure Market Leader and Principal, Wes Parker, P.E., PTOE, spoke about the incredible impact of this community project and our company's involvement on 18th and 19th Street. We're honored to collaborate with these talented professionals, contributing to the city we call home. By supporting initiatives like this, we're creating a lasting, colorful legacy in the City of Virginia Beach. We're excited to see how these new murals will further enrich our community! 📸: Photos provided by the ViBe District Team

We're proud to once again participate in AIA Triangle Barkitecture, a standout, annual event for Clark Nexsen. This year, our collaboration with Raleigh Reclaimed produced 'Step Paw-sition,' a bench designed to assist smaller and senior dogs in accessing their resting spaces. We love participating in Barkitecture because it brings together local designers that think outside the box, redefines typical pet structures, and supports animal rescue and foster organizations in the Triangle area. We thank our talented team of Will, Tim, Alex, Seiya, and Anna for their creativity and for representing the firm at this year's event! #barkitecture #aiatriangle #architectureforgood

At Clark Nexsen, our team is constantly inspired by real-world scenarios and practical solutions. This drive for meaningful design was beautifully exemplified when two of our talented professionals, Nikki Pierce, CDFA, LEED AP and Kevin Utsey, FAIA, LEED AP BD and C, GGP (now retired), participated in the AIA Charlotte Queer Design Collaborative competition. Nikki and Kevin's entry, "Q-Mobile," is a thoughtful and practical mobile solution designed to serve queer community members with limited access to transportation and resources. Their design, which earned a Certificate of Recognition, features a lightweight, transportable structure with zero-barrier entrances, essential facilities like a compostable toilet and shower, and a flexible space for rest, education, and community events. We're very proud of Nikki and Kevin for their creative approach to addressing real community needs and for representing Clark Nexsen's values of inclusivity and social responsibility. Congratulations on this achievement and for making your mark in your first design competition, Nikki! #inclusivedesign #peopleofcn #AIACharlotte #queerdesigncollaborative

Clark Nexsen is proud to have teamed up with Kimley-Horn to raise over $7,900 at this year's Hops for Hope event! This fundraising campaign for Children's Flight of Hope, a nonprofit organization that provides flights to specialized care for children in need, partners corporate teams in the North Carolina Triangle with local breweries to craft unique beers. Our Raleigh offices of Clark Nexsen and Kimley-Horn have participated for six straight years, and this year, we were paired with Brewery Bhavana. Enhancing the team’s fundraising efforts, the Clark Nexsen Foundation once again matched the amount raised by Clark Nexsen, culminating in $16,000 over the last two years alone! We are thrilled to have taken part in this campaign with Kimley-Horn and look forward to participating again next year! Over the past few days, we have been heartbroken to see the massive destruction and devastation that has impacted the southeast due to Hurricane Helene. We have checked in with our teams in Asheville and Johnson City and are happy to report that everyone is accounted for and doing well despite power and water outages. Given the damage in and around Asheville, we expect it will take some time before our Asheville office is fully operational. If there is a pressing project-related need with our Asheville or Johnson City office staff, please reach out to our corporate HQ in Virginia Beach for assistance. Over the next few days, we will be organizing ways to support our colleagues and the communities we are proud to call home. Thank you to everyone who has checked in and offered their support. We will provide updates as the situation evolves. #Asheville #HurricaneHelene #Tennessee
