We are happy to share Virginia Tech's new Upper Quad Residence Hall! Designed to support the growth of the Corps of Cadets to 1,400 students, this stunning Collegiate Gothic building offers 302 cadet beds and a host of modern amenities. The exteriors feature iconic Hokie stone with precast concrete accents and heraldry elements that celebrate the rich history of the Corps and the University. Inside, traditional dormitory-style rooms with double and triple occupancy are complemented by a variety of common spaces like floor lounges, a group kitchen, and a mud room. The design focuses on creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, with light hues inspired by cadet uniforms and engaging color accents in public spaces. We are proud to have contributed to the transformation of the Upper Quad and support the mission of the Corps of Cadets. 📸 Cameron Triggs #GoHokies #VirginiaTech #UpperQuad #CorpsOfCadet #StudentLifeDesign

This week we're celebrating the grand opening of the new Fort Fisher Visitor Center! The new 22,219-square-foot facility blends historical preservation with modern design, featuring reconstructed elements of the original fort including underground tunnels and artillery emplacements. Through resilient coastal engineering and interactive exhibits, the center creates an immersive educational experience that brings history to life. Today, the new visitors center is open to the public! Be sure to plan a visit to explore how innovative architecture and thoughtful design can transform our connection to this significant historical site. Congratulations to the project team for this incredible accomplishment! riggs ward | CLH design, p.a. | Bordeaux Construction

October is Pedestrian Safety Month, and at Clark Nexsen, we're committed to creating safer streets for everyone. Our transportation design team focuses on establishing accessible spaces that connect communities and prioritize pedestrian safety while creating vibrant, flexible public spaces. From widening sidewalks to meet ADA standards to innovative solutions for utility pole placement, we seamlessly blend safety features with placemaking elements—like the adaptable parklet along 18th Street that serves both as a protective barrier and a dynamic community space. Our approach balances creative design solutions with stakeholder collaboration to overcome challenges, resulting in streetscapes that are both secure and inviting. Check out some of our projects where we improved pedestrian safety and accessibility while creating more walkable, livable communities for all. In response to the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Clark Nexsen and the Clark Nexsen Foundation have pledged $50,000 to recovery and relief efforts. This pledge includes a $25,000 donation and matching employee donations up to $25,000 to 501(c)(3) organizations providing recovery efforts in the affected areas. We are pleased to report that our Johnson City office has fully resumed operations and is back to serving our clients and community. However, our hearts are with our Asheville team members, many of whom continue to face significant challenges in the hurricane's wake. During this difficult time, we remain committed to supporting our team members while maintaining our high standards of service to our clients. “Experiencing this devastation has simultaneously been humbling and inspiring. We are hopeful that these contributions will help our region recover from Hurricane Helene.” Chad Roberson, Principal, Asheville Office Leader Learn more: https://bit.ly/4fiL8a8

We're proud to have participated in the United Way Day of Caring at Trails of Purpose in Chesapeake, VA, last month! Our team rolled up their sleeves to clean the tack room, paint fences, and tidy up the sheep and goat pen. Trails of Purpose is a non-profit organization providing free equine-assisted therapies and mental health counseling to military service members and their families. They play a crucial role in supporting our nation's heroes as they navigate the challenges of trauma, transition, and trials resulting from their service. A big thank you to our team for making a difference with this important organization!

Fort Fisher's Finishing Touches With the Grand Opening just around the corner, the project team at #FortFisher has been hard at work to finalize each and every detail. Paul Hock, Bordeaux Construction Project Engineer, reflects on yesterday's installation of the #cannon: “The cannon installation was very smooth; it only took around 30 minutes – but it required a 125’ crane with roughly 6,000 lbs of counterweight to be able to get it into location. The carriage had to sit on a “pintle block” (a concrete column with a cast iron pin about 2” wide on top). There was a hole for this pin under the carriage that was the same size. This took some precise positioning, but we were able to set it one smooth motion.” The building’s construction has been a meticulous process that combined historical sensitivity with cutting-edge engineering. It’s been an honor to help bring Clark Nexsen, CLH design, p.a., and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources vision to life! Special thanks to CIVIL WORKS CONTRACTING for their expertise in this final stretch of the project. Stay tuned for the final unveiling!

Clark Nexsen is collaborating with the Federal government to achieve a carbon-neutral electric sector by 2035 and net-zero emissions economy-wide by 2050. Our efforts include developing guidelines for federal electric vehicle charging facilities at Navy and Marine Corps installations. Recently, the Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC) awarded Jacobs Engineering CH2M Hill/Clark Nexsen Energy Partners Joint Venture a $3.7 million contract for an electrical microgrid study as part of the Navy's Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program (SIOP). This study will assess the implementation of microgrids at four public shipyards, ensuring up to 14 days of off-grid power. We're advancing sustainability and modernizing critical infrastructure by integrating EVs, microgrids, and other solutions. 🔗Steve Wilson discusses our electrification efforts in our latest blog: https://bit.ly/3WFpGV2 🔗Learn more about the SIOP microgrid study: https://bit.ly/3Yjikc0
