  • The Climate Drift Career Accelerator for mid-career & executives kicked off. The first round of feedback is solid 🔥 Here are my top 3 from our members: 1️⃣ “I’ve gotten tremendous value out of the course; specifically the action-oriented nature of the course (learning + doing, not just learning) and the orientation towards landing a career in climate and HOW to do it” 2️⃣ “The quality and access to the speakers so far has been unparalleled (and I've done programs with [multiple other climate education programs]).” 3️⃣ 10 out of 10: The content is in-depth and interesting, and gives the cohort opportunities to get involved by tackling challenges hands-on (which in my opinion, is the best way to learn!) If you want to make a difference and bring your talent into climate. Apply to our May ’24 cohort and join the Climate Drift community. More info and how to apply here: https://lnkd.in/eN8aCHsC

I talk about career transitions a lot. And can easily argue both sides 👇 1️⃣ Skills Over Companies: Focus only on developing valuable skills. Doesn’t matter which company you get those skills from. But then what about your professional network? 2️⃣ Job Hopping Isn't a Career Killer: Hop around, rake in consistent salary increases, showcase adaptability…but then get flagged for not being “loyal” or “ever being promoted” by more “traditional” hiring managers. 3️⃣ Work for Free or Cheap to Break In: Take a “stepping stone” job for 6 months to break in. Don’t even tell anyone about it, but leverage it like crazy behind the scenes. Then quit for the better opportunity. But what about burning those bridges? 4️⃣ Forget the Linear Career Path: You can’t connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking back. So be open to exploration…but what about my mental health of feeling without a clear goal to hit? 5️⃣ Every meeting: Speak Up: Everyone needs to hear your voice, your thoughts and ideas. That’s how you get ahead…but what about just wasting everyones time if I don’t have anything of value to contribute? 6️⃣ New Learnings Over Paycheck: Never follow the money, always chase learning something valuable as fast as possible. But what about making a nice paycheck and feeling good about my personal finances? 7️⃣ Workaholism as a Success Strategy: “I am getting everything done. All the time. That’s why I am climbing the ranks”…but what about burnout, mental health and being productive? Which one hits home most for you? —— PS. I helped 1,000s transition careers and share a lot of career advice (especially on Climate jobs). Remember those “What to eat” pyramids? I don't know how many of you commute by super yacht or 70s race car… But it ain’t me. So I think, I’m already eating my “mobility vegetables” 😂 But in all seriousness: I’ve designed my life around commuting and run most errands by bike for the past 15 years. The only thing that changed was the type of bike (bigger bike to transport kids). And it’s led to a much healthier and more fun life. But looking at this pyramid… Maybe I should have designed everything around windsurfing to the grocery store instead 🤔 (credit to JAJA Architects for designing the pyramid). —— PS. My personal North-Star is to have a good answer for my kids when they ask: “Daddy, what have you done to keep Mother Earth healthy?” Follow me (Marco Morawec) and my company Climate Drift to be part of this journey.

They did the one thing we don’t do much today anymore 👇 They thought. They sat with the problems. And thought about potential solutions. Then they would meet with others to talk about those problems. Then think some more. If you want to improve your performance, productivity, whatever it is. You don’t need the latest tool, AI this-or-that. But you need to make time to think. It worked before. And it works today.

Here’s how you lead 💪 Removing “forever chemicals” from your product to protect nature. Should be an easy decision. Especially for a company like Patagonia, which made Nature its only shareholder. And just to be clear: 👉 Forever chemicals are a HUGE deal. → Can be bought for $50-$1k/pound, cost $3M-$18M/pound to clearn from wastewater. → Costs Society $17T a year, while bringing in $4B of profits. → Clean-up costs are $2T over 20 years (Europe only). → Detected in the blood of ~97% of Americans. → Health costs of $5B-$63B/year (US alone). Not being a customer of forever chemicals is a worthy goal. Bravo Patagonia  👏 Use this as inspiration for the new week. Let’s go! 🙌 — PS. 20 sentences that hang on my wall. And everyone should read 👇  1.    Action is the antidote to anxiety.  2.    You get 4,000 weeks if you're lucky— stop waiting.  3.    Notice the people who bring out your favorite version of yourself.  4.    You teach people how to treat you by what you tolerate.  5.    Growth happens when you do things you feel unqualified to do.  6.    "The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek."  7.    If you don't schedule your priorities, someone else will.  8.    The most dangerous addiction is the approval of other people.  9.    Burnout happens when you treat rest as a reward rather than & right. 10.     You'll never regret investing in your health, learning, or relationships. 11.     Normalize not having an opinion on things you aren't informed on. 12.     The only person who's going to magically show up to save you— is you. 13.     Your habits are the silent architects of your life. 14.     Discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want now. 15.     The people who matter won't leave you for having boundaries. 16.     Your worth isn't tied to your productivity. 17.     Reach out to people just because they crossed your mind. 18.     Not everything requires your reaction, silence is a response, too. 19.     Action creates motivation not the other way around. 20.     "You can literally change your life any day you can wake up tomorrow and decide that you want something different." Which one is your favorite? I swear by number 1 🙌 Works for me almost every single time.

I’m a huge believer in constant improvement. Especially in education. What we tested this week: First context: We’re having a lot of impressive speakers come and talk to our members. They share: → What’s really happening inside a climate sub sector. → Where the current challenges are. → What talent is needed where. → What needs doing now. The stuff you can’t find anywhere. Or learn on your own. But usually it was Skander or me running our fireside chats. Asking most of the questions. Yesterday this changed. We invited Johann Boedecker to run the show. → He’s the CEO and founder at Pentatonic. → 15+ years in circular economy. → Wrote the book about it. 👉 He knows what matters and how to ask the most pressing questions one should know. And then we had Daniel Haltia join us. Sharing his circular economy perspective from somebody who implements circular systems, at scale, for a living. The talk was fire 🔥 Now we’re going to repeat this same format by bringing in two powerhouse women in Circularity. Nadia Setiabudi with 15+ years in fashion and footwear. Will ask what matters to Manuela Zoninsein. Who’s the founder at Kadeya, (waste free beverages for workplaces) and just bagged a “most influential women” award 🤩 I’m sure that talk will be just as high quality. Once we get our feedback ratings from our Climate Drift members back. And they’re higher than what we’ve done before. Well, I might just have gotten myself out of a job. 😂 Let’s go 🙌

Here’s why I love building Climate Drift ❤️ I get to join as many speaker sessions as I possibly can. And I often watch the recordings. Why? Because our speakers share: → What’s really happening inside a sub sector. → Where the current challenges are. → What talent is needed where. → What needs doing now. All the stuff you can’t find anywhere else. But mostly, because they inspire me. By seeing how many smart, motivated, and extremely talented people are working on keeping Earth beautiful. And during these days… We all need a bit of extra inspiration.

Imposter Syndrome is such an annoying time waster. When I see it in our members…here’s what I do 👇 Context: I regularly run deeply tactical career transition sessions with our Climate Drift members. The last session was about using short form content on LinkedIn to get ahead and stand out. One part many people struggle with: 👉 Finding interesting things to write about that showcase their transferable skills. I ran through 9 different tactics on doing this efficiently. One of my suggestions was to look at your own experience. To write about “your hard lessons learned”. That’s when I got the blank stares back. 👉 “I don’t have anything to write about from my experience” I felt the imposter syndrome standing in the middle of the room. So I ran down a list of accomplishments I remembered from a handful of members: → Trained national park rangers across the US to prevent wildfires (nature based solutions knowledge!) → Designing and founding a seaweed carbon storage system + company (technical skills) → Growing up in a 6th generation food business (food systems) → Scaling divisions from 0 to 100s of people (growth + scale) → Professional recruiters with 15 years of experience Then told everyone else to ping me if they want to know why they are in here. Those pings came in. I shared what makes everyone special. Why they are a Climate Driftie. And make no mistakes. We need so much talent to decarbonize our entire economy. Pretty much everyone can play a role. Let’s go! 🙌 — PS. I’m Marco Morawec. I up-skilled 1,000s of people to transition into new careers. I’m doing the same for climate now. 👉 Sign up for my FREE “Find Your Climate Niche” Learning Course. 5-10 min reading bursts. Single Climate Sector Focus. Compact knowledge. I need some inspiration… What’s the most underrated nature experience in your opinion? Doesn’t have to be fancy. The simpler, the better in my opinion. I drop my top-3 in the first comment. Let’s see if we can inspire each other to go outside more. And fall in love with nature again. Because once that happens, you are way more motivated to protect it. Let’s go!
