The Climate Drift Career Accelerator for mid-career & executives kicked off. The first round of feedback is solid 🔥 Here are my top 3 from our members: 1️⃣ “I’ve gotten tremendous value out of the course; specifically the action-oriented nature of the course (learning + doing, not just learning) and the orientation towards landing a career in climate and HOW to do it” 2️⃣ “The quality and access to the speakers so far has been unparalleled (and I've done programs with [multiple other climate education programs]).” 3️⃣ 10 out of 10: The content is in-depth and interesting, and gives the cohort opportunities to get involved by tackling challenges hands-on (which in my opinion, is the best way to learn!) If you want to make a difference and bring your talent into climate. Apply to our May ’24 cohort and join the Climate Drift community. More info and how to apply here: https://lnkd.in/eN8aCHsC

The best piece of advice that changed my entire life trajectory. Is to get yourself a mentor or a coach. Somebody who's been there, done that. You find them by throwing your talents at interesting problems and challenges. Then talk about them. There's no better mentor magnet than somebody with bounds of energy, trying to solve something worthwhile. Be that person. Everything else will follow. Make it a great weekend! ---- PS. When I started tracking the solar industry, it was a fringe technology—something you did on your roof to feel good about yourself. Fast forward to today, and solar is leading the charge in global electricity generation. Prices are 6% of what they were in 2008, and solar is the cheapest form of new electricity in most markets. We’ve gone from niche to necessity, and we’re just getting started. 🔧 Keep an Eye on Costs: Solar is winning because it’s cheap. As long as costs keep dropping, solar’s dominance will only grow. 💼 Investment Shifts: Solar isn’t just an environmental play—it’s where the smart money is going. The market is recognizing that solar is no longer a gamble, but a solid bet. 📈 Growth is Non-Negotiable: If we want to hit climate targets, solar growth isn’t optional. The numbers are on our side, but we need to keep pushing. #SolarPower #EnergyTransition #CleanTech

Everyone loves a good startup story, but let’s be real—most don’t make it. In the solar sector, about 70-75% of startups fail. It’s brutal out there, but for those that get it right, the rewards are immense. Just look at Q-Cells—investors walked away with over $300 million from an $11.5 million investment. The key? Understand the risks, get your timing right, and don’t chase the hype. 💰 Funding Isn’t Everything: Money helps, but it doesn’t guarantee success. Focus on the fundamentals—technology, market fit, and execution. 🎯 Market Timing: You can have the best tech in the world, but if the market isn’t ready, you’re doomed. Timing is everything. 💥 Prepare for the Worst: Startups fail more often than not. Be ready for the grind, and have a backup plan. #StartupLife #SolarEnergy #Entrepreneurship

China just published new car efficiency standards. They are 🤯 😱 By January 2026 these new MIIT standards are mandatory: → Internal combustion engine (aka ICE) cars, including hybrid, must reach 70 miles per gallon. → Most EVs must reach 22.4kwh per 100 miles. What does that mean? → Pretty much all ICE cars, and older generation hybrids, will be looked out of the Chinese market. → Many EVs will reach that standard by then. → If a car cannot meet that standard, the company can buy carbon credits for it (e.g. pay a penalty for selling a dirty car). You gotta love a strong climate regulation. But I wonder what would happen if the same regulation would be proposed in the US?

Here’s what makes me proud 🥹 When our very own Climate Drifties show the world what’s possible if you put your all into it. The last 3 climate solutions deep dives have been absolute fire 🔥 1️⃣ Using AI to Tackle Plastic Waste (a 4 part deep dive)  By Mark Lammers (10+ years in leadership positions at Microsoft + 10 years leading teams at Point B)  👉 https://lnkd.in/gu9cMAmV 2️⃣ Powering the Future - Which Battery is best for each use case By Harrison Tramposch (biz analyst on the Nasdaq ESG and Climate Advisory team) 👉 https://lnkd.in/gfRbVqtW 3️⃣ Recycled Aluminum - Miracle or Myth (A deep dive) By Matt Granger (12+ years leading product designer with a focus on the cycling industry) 👉 https://lnkd.in/g7DNsGhB I love reading and learning from those posts. But for our Drifties, they are much more then that. Sharing those posts, helps them tap into the vast network of Climate Drift (readers, followers, investor connections). And allows them to showcase the skills they can bring to the table. Leading to those golden follow-up conversations: 👉 “We’re looking for exactly this type of [product/marketing/growth/operational] thinking at our climate company” 👉 “Can we talk more?” And the best thing… Those posts are way more fun to write than any cover letter. But bring 100X the impact. Let’s go 🙌 —— PS. Circular economy is often treated as a catch-all solution to our environmental problems, but it’s not as straightforward as it sounds. Unlike specific industries like energy or agriculture, circularity is a broad approach that overlays existing systems. The challenge? We don’t even have clear data or proper metrics for measuring its impact yet. We’re talking about potential rather than actual outcomes. 📊 Data Gaps: The global waste generation is expected to increase by 70% by 2050, yet we lack clear metrics to measure the impact of circular economy initiatives. 🔄 Systemic Complexity: Circularity isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution—it requires rethinking how entire industries operate, with only 9% of global plastic being recycled. 💡 Regulatory Lag: While regulations like the EU's Waste Framework Directive aim to address these issues, they are often not strong or clear enough to drive significant change across the board. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #SystemChange

Hot take: Helping people break into climate. Don’t start with the solution. Start with the problem. Here’s how most people jump straight to the solution. Without understanding the problem at it’s core. 1️⃣ Solution: We need a climate education program. Why? Because people want to start a career in the climate economy. → So if I run a course that teaches them about all the different sectors. → And shows what climate change does to our world. → They use that knowledge to find a job. All that is important. But it’s only half the battle. It is the same playbook that most universities have followed for decades: → Let me teach you a subject. And then you need to find a job. But you understanding a subject…. Doesn’t help you land that job. Why? Because you’re missing the most important piece: 2️⃣ Problem: People don’t know how their skills transfer into climate and what value they bring to the table. Climate companies don’t hire you for understanding how Direct Air Capture or EV charging works. They expect you to know that already. They hire you: → Because you understand what’s holding back their growth. → Because you your skills solve their problems. → Because you connect the dots for them. Once you understand the actual problem deeply. You don’t build an education program. You build a program that’s based on people tackling those challenges head on. Education is just one part of the overall program. That’s what we’re doing at Climate Drift. And it’s working. (said by somebody who spent the past 10+ years building successful career transition programs). Let’s go! 🙌 —— PS. Want to transition into a Climate Career? 👉 Consider applying to the Climate Drift career accelerator for senior and executive level professionals (link in comments). Our last cohort had an NPS of 64 (just above Apple) and a 4.6/5 stars satisfaction rate. Plus we’re getting reviews like: 😍 1️⃣ “This is truly like no cohort out there! (I've done a few). The intimate community setting and amazing, intelligent speakers are unmatched.” 2️⃣ “I’ve already gotten tremendous value out of the course; specifically the action-oriented nature of the course (learning + doing, not just learning) and the orientation towards landing a career in climate and HOW to do it” 3️⃣ ”I learned SO MUCH and feel 10x more equipped for my climate career goals than before.”
