  • Our Marketing Department is hiring! For over 50 years — next year we turn 55! — Community Food Co-op has been at the heart of Bellingham's sustainable food movement. What started as a small buying club in 1970 has grown into a community-owned market that champions local producers, environmental stewardship, and healthy food access for all. As we continue to grow, we're seeking a Digital Marketing Coordinator & Designer to join our collaborative Marketing & Outreach team. This role combines creative design skills with digital marketing expertise to tell our story across web, social, and email channels. The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainable food systems, values community engagement, and thrives in an inclusive workplace where every voice matters. Benefits include phenomenal health insurance, paid time off, retirement matching, and a generous staff discount. Plus, you'll join an organization that actively supports local farms, environmental initiatives, and community education programs. • Would you take a moment to tell us what you’re grateful for? This community is everything to us — here’s what we’re thankful for: Our coworkers, whose compassion for each other, dedication to local food systems, and day-in, day-out drive make the Co-op thrive. This town, which has supported cooperative values since we opened our doors nearly 55 years ago, in 1970. You’ve allowed us to grow from a small buying club to two stores with more than 250 employees. Our Board of Directors, who share their wisdom and expertise to help guide our cooperative vision. The hundreds of local farmers, fishers, ranchers and makers who pour their hearts into creating the exceptional products on our shelves. And of course, our member-owners. Without you, our crazy dream of cooperative ownership would not be possible. Thank you. After a busy month of helping put good, wholesome food on your Thanksgiving table, our staff is taking Thursday off to be with friends and family. We’ll reopen Friday morning and look forward to seeing you then. Happy Thanksgiving!

  • The benefits that come from outdoor recreation are profound: the empowerment of learning how to ride a new trail on Galbraith, existing self-sufficiently on a backpacking adventure, carving a perfect powder turn at Mount Baker. These transformative experiences should be accessible to everyone in our community. That's why Vamos Outdoors Project creates outdoor adventures for Latine youth from migrant farmworker families in Whatcom and Skagit counties. By providing free programs, gear, transportation, and bilingual mentorship, Vamos helps young people overcome barriers and discover the power of outdoor recreation. Join us for our Community Shopping Days on Saturday, November 16, where we'll donate 2% of the day's sales to Vamos Outdoors. You also can round up your purchase at the register any day this month — 100% of these donations help local youth experience the magic of the natural world. #VamosOutdoors #BellinghamWA #CommunityFirst #OutdoorAccess #ShopLocal #WhatcomCommunity #LocalImpact

  • Join us in celebrating transparency in our food system and supporting biodiversity. At Community Food Co-op, we're proud to offer a wide selection of Non-GMO Project Verified products that are better for people and the planet. Look for the butterfly seal when you shop — it's your assurance that a product has gone through rigorous testing to avoid GMOs. By choosing non-GMO, you're supporting sustainable farming practices, preserving biodiversity, and protecting our genetic inheritance for future generations. • Vote NO on Initiative 2117. I-2117 is a proposal to repeal Washington's Climate Commitment Act, which funds crucial environmental and community programs across our state. At Community Food Co-op, we're deeply concerned about I-2117's impact on overburdened communities in our area: It would cut funding for community-led projects to improve air quality in neighborhoods most affected by pollution, often low-income areas and communities of color. It slashes $26.4 million in grants that help community organizations engage with state agencies to implement the Healthy Environment for All Act. It would eliminate funding for programs that reduce pollution from heavy-duty trucks, which disproportionately affects neighborhoods near industrial areas and highways. It cuts funding to plant more trees in urban communities, worsening the disparity in tree cover between low-income neighborhoods and wealthier areas. These cuts directly conflict with our commitment to building a just and livable world for all members of our community. Environmental justice and equitable access to healthy food and clean air are core to our Co-op's mission. Make your voice heard! Register to vote at votewa.gov. Ballots go out October 18, and the voting deadline is November 5. Together, we can create a healthier, more equitable future for all our neighbors. #VoteNoOn2117 #HealthyCommunityMatters

It shines a light on important issues, holds power to account, and helps citizens make informed decisions about their lives and their communities. In our rapidly changing media landscape, supporting quality local news has never been more crucial. Salish Current is a nonpartisan, nonprofit online news organization serving Whatcom, San Juan, and Skagit counties. With a commitment to fact-based reporting and a focus on local government, public health, the environment, and social justice, Salish Current fills a vital need for in-depth, independent journalism in our region. Their team of experienced reporters and editors work hard to bring important stories to light, fostering a more informed and connected community. And this month, they are the recipient of our Community Shopping Days donations. There are two ways you can support Salish Current while shopping at the Co-op : • 2% Saturdays: Shop with us this Saturday, Oct. 19. • Vote NO on Initiative 2117. I-2117 is a proposal to repeal Washington's Climate Commitment Act, which funds crucial environmental and community programs across our state. At Community Food Co-op, we're deeply concerned about I-2117's impact on our local ecosystems and salmon populations: • It would cut funding for seven fish barrier removal projects right here in Whatcom and Skagit counties, directly impacting our local waterways. • It would eliminate $11 million in funding for programs that incentivize farmers to plant native vegetation along salmon-spawning streams, crucial for keeping water clean and at ideal temperatures for salmon. • It threatens over $216 million in future funding for removing barriers that impede salmon and steelhead migration, vital for maintaining healthy fish populations. • It ends funding for restoring Fisher Creek in Skagit County, a project important for local salmon habitat. These cuts directly conflict with our commitment to supporting strong local food systems and environmental stewardship. Healthy salmon populations are essential for our ecosystem, economy, and cultural heritage. Make your voice heard! Register to vote at votewa.gov. Ballots go out October 18, and the voting deadline is November 5. Together, we can protect our rivers, our salmon, and our future. #VoteNoOn2117#HealthyCommunityMatters

  • Vote NO on Initiative 2117. I-2117 is a proposal to repeal Washington's Climate Commitment Act, which funds crucial environmental and community programs across our state. At Community Food Co-op, we're deeply concerned about I-2117's impact on air quality and pollution in our community: It would cut nearly $30 million from wildfire prevention programs, leaving our forests and communities more vulnerable to catastrophic fires. Over 1 million Washingtonians living in high-pollution areas would lose air quality monitoring, eliminating crucial health warnings on bad air days. It would cut funding for modernizing school buildings, including updates to ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems, directly impacting air quality for students and staff. Critical investments in public transit, walking, and biking infrastructure would be cut, reducing affordable and environmentally friendly transportation options for all. These cuts directly conflict with our commitment to community health, education, and accessibility. Clean air and sustainable transportation are essential for a thriving, connected community.
