Today is #IndigenousPeoplesDay, an opportunity to reflect on Indigenous Peoples' history and celebrate their diverse cultures and legacies. The insights and knowledge of Tribes and Tribal Nations can and should play an important role in the clean energy transition, to help ensure offshore renewable energy is developed in an environmentally, socially, and culturally sensitive manner. Community Offshore Wind is committed to being a partner to Indigenous Peoples.
About us
Community Offshore Wind is an offshore wind joint venture of RWE and National Grid, committed to Local Clean Energy for All™. With this partnership, National Grid and RWE have jointly acquired an offshore seabed lease with the goal of developing, constructing and operating U.S. offshore wind projects. The awarded seabed has the potential to host 3 gigawatts (GW) of capacity, enough to power 1.1 million homes. RWE brings its wealth of experience in global offshore wind project development across the entire value chain, from project conception to construction and operation. The unparalleled experience the company has earned over the last 20 years has resulted in 20 successful projects, ranking RWE in the top tier of the global offshore wind market. National Grid brings local expertise in the Northeast along with its experience developing large-scale infrastructure projects, including industry-leading subsea cable capabilities from its portfolio of interconnectors that facilitate the transfer of renewable energy between the UK and Europe. This partnership supports both companies’ efforts to advance a clean energy future and achieve net zero in the coming decades. Offshore wind will be critical for the U.S., particularly in the Northeast, to reduce emissions, meet climate goals and create local jobs. Community Offshore Wind understands the importance of meeting these goals and is committed to providing clean and reliable energy, as well as delivering an equity energy future for all its customers.

Huge thanks to Gary LaBarbera and Mario Cilento for highlighting the transformative benefits of offshore wind—boosting our climate efforts, strengthening the economy, and creating thousands of well-paying #union jobs. The potential is immense, but we need to refocus to fully realize it. Community Offshore Wind’s proposal for New York’s 5th solicitation is designed to get us there, ensuring a brighter, more sustainable future that empowers New Yorkers for generations to come.
