About us
The Copper Development Association Inc. is the market development, engineering and information services arm of the copper industry, chartered to enhance and expand markets for copper and its alloys in North America. Membership in CDA is open to copper producers worldwide and to brass mill, wire mill and foundry fabricators of copper and copper alloys with production facilities in the USA. Membership provides the opportunity to be part of an industrywide market development and technical service program so large and diverse that no one company would be prepared to undertake it alone. Learn more about CDA on our website at www.copper.org, our blog thinkcopper.org and via Twitter @thinkcopper.

A new bipartisan Bill, the Critical Mineral Consistency Act, could be a game-changer. If passed, it means the Energy Act will be amended to immediately include already designated DOE Critical Materials, like copper, as official USGS Critical Minerals, unlocking much needed tax and permitting benefits to keep the domestic copper industry strong and competitive. It’s a big step towards a more sustainable energy future for the U.S. #Copper #CDA #CopperisSecure #EnergyIndependence #CopperisCritical #CriticalMineral

ASTM's copper and copper alloys committee (B05) has approved two new standards providing guidance that will aid in the detection of contaminants in scrap copper. The new guides are the first standards developed by the copper committee’s newest subcommittee, on recycled materials (B05.08). “Scrap is a dynamic product and can contain contamination from numerous sources that is difficult to spot by visual inspection and conventional sampling techniques,” says ASTM member Adam Estelle, who chairs B05.08. “These new standards give scrap buyers and sellers new guidance and best industry practices to find contaminants before they enter the furnace.” For more information, see https://lnkd.in/etwT-KwZ #copper #metals #scrapmetal #recycling

USGS can and should add copper directly to its 2025 Critical Minerals list. However, another path exists as well. The bipartisan Critical Mineral Consistency Act would ensure copper gets credit. In a groundbreaking move the DOE added copper to its Critical Materials list in 2023 – the first for a U.S. Government Agency. But that’s not enough. Copper must be recognized as a USGS Critical Mineral and that’s what this Act would do by unifying the two lists. Watch this space for more. #Copper #CDA #CopperisSecure #CopperisCritical #USGS #CriticalMineral

Heard about the USGS Critical Minerals list? This list identifies minerals that are essential for modern tech and national security, but face supply chain risks. Think of them as the building blocks for everything from smartphones to renewable energy. While the list includes many well-known elements like aluminum, lithium and cobalt, there's one that keeps getting overlooked: copper. Let's advocate for its inclusion and ensure our transition to a clean energy future. #Copper #CDA #CopperisSecure #CopperisCritical #USGS #CriticalMineral

Canada, Japan, India, Australia, China, South Korea, and Chile have all taken action. Countries are racing to secure critical minerals essential for economic growth and national security. The U.S., however, lags behind in one key area—it still hasn’t recognized copper as a Critical Mineral. As we journey through Copper Age 2.0, let’s explore why #CopperisCritical and why it should be added to the 2025 USGS Critical Minerals list. #Copper #CDA #CopperisSecure #USGS #CriticalMinerals
