New challenge complete! Yesterday, I shared my thoughts with an engaging NATO audience on the importance of autonomy to our future. Whilst the subject and discussions are not for publishing, I was really pleased to do this on behalf of our company Copper Turtle with support, as ever, from my business partner Elaine Plested. It always evokes thoughts about enablers for autonomy and the progress that we are making with technology and trust. Thanks go to Caroline Hoefsmit for inviting me, and Frank Koudijs for recommending me. Exploring the links between marine autonomy and air autonomy has been very interesting and shows some promising signs of future collaboration.

As a company, we've always supported charities and good causes, but today we took the landmark decision to nominate a specific charity of the year for 2025. As part of our new Social Value Strategy, that Copper Turtle are helping us to develop, we have selected to work with Service Dogs UK. 🐕🦺 And, when you look at what the charity achieves, it is a double whammy! The charity works with rescue dogs, so not only do they change a dog's life for the better, they are matched with a veteran and trained to support specific tasks, dependent upon that veteran's condition. Why rescue dogs? The charity's experience shows that veterans share empathy with rescue dogs. Like veterans with PTSD, rescue dogs have their 'battle scars', they can change each other's life for the better, and that empowers both! As an organisation, we are both excited and proud to support this charity, and we are looking forward to developing a plan of activities for the coming year. The plan will involve financial contribution, but we will also be looking to involve the wider team in activities that support the charity, as well as offering our skills and expertise to the charity in ways that could benefit them in different ways than financial. There are so many critical applications for UAVs, aside from defence. Have you set your new intentions and goals for 2025? It's something that I do every year, both business and personal. And so with my usual determination, I know that 2025 is going to be an awesome year! Starting with my sign up to the Foundation Level of the January Help For Heroes Military Fitness Challenge - see the link in the comments below 👇 Although there is a minimum, I've tried to do much more. So, in the last 8 days I have done my sit-ups and press-ups 😬, I have run 12k, walked 15k (in addition to my normal daily steps) and swam 1.6km. So far, I've experienced beautiful sunrises, glorious sunshine...flooded paths, howling wind, freezing temperatures, sleet, ice and rain. I've not fallen in love with sit-ups, but I have got my running mojo back and I am still smiling! 😃 So what can you do? Well, here's my invitation to you: ⚡Power start your 2025 by setting your own intentions and goals. You could also... 📅 Join me for my last run on Friday 31st January, 12.30pm at the BattleLab, with Julius Davidson BEng(Hons) IEng MIMechE fCMgr MCMI (how am I going to keep up with him??) and Robert James Cole 🏃♂️ 🏃 🏃♀️ . The aim is 5k (subject to being injury free) around the BattleLab roads, no matter the weather. So, why not don on your fitness gear and come join us.
