From our headquarters in Rome to our Leonardo Aircraft site in Turin, it was a pleasure to welcome the international crew of the Axiom Space's Ax-3 mission: Col. Walter Villadei of the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare), Mission Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria, Col. Alper Gezeravcı and T. Col. Marcus Wandt. As Cybertech Europe 2024 concludes, it is clear that #cybersecurity has evolved from a technical field reserved for experts into a critical component of society's digital transformation. Organized by Cybertech in collaboration with Leonardo, the event highlighted the interconnectedness of modern security challenges. Today, safeguarding corporate perimeters, protecting individuals, and defending against armed threats all hinge on digital innovation. New technologies are essential for ensuring effective defense in an increasingly complex and interconnected environment. Roberto Cingolani, CEO and General Manager of #Leonardo, stated: "Cybersecurity is a priority for the future of Europe, which must accelerate its coordination, investments and initiatives to ensure #GlobalSecurity. In his speech at #Cybertech2024, Andrea Campora, Managing Director Leonardo Cyber & Security Solutions, explained that the use of #ArtificialIntelligence in critical infrastructures is an opportunity, but it also poses many challenges and risks. The approach to #cyber resilience must evolve to face the emerging requirements in a #globalsecurity context. The growing threats related to the use of #AI by cybercriminals for multiple purposes such as the development of AI-enhanced malware or AI-driven cyber threats, make the protection of cybersecurity of all platforms crucial. The topic is covered by Andrea Campora, who describes the scenario and the challenges the Group is facing. “In this context, Leonardo's approach to cyber resilience leverages distinctive skills and capabilities to develop secure-by-design platforms, i.e. whose security includes the entire lifecycle of the product and the ecosystem in which it operates.” According to Campora, data resilience must then evolve towards a global security approach passing through data-centric security. Our Chairman Stefano Pontecorvo opened the second day of #Cybertech2024, emphasising the increase in cyberattacks in 2023 and underlining that, in this scenario, it is essential to protect sensitive infrastructures from a military but also social security perspective. Attacks on sensitive infrastructures in terms of military and social security, such as food, water and electricity security, represent a threat that must be defended against. This is why #cybersecurity plays a central role in #Leonardo's global security-oriented strategic plan. Cybersecurity is indeed a key enabling factor in sectors such as Defence, critical infrastructure protection and the new Space Economy. The digitalisation of the operational scenario, with increasing interoperability between domains and the application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and supercomputing, requires solutions and products that are cybersecure and resilient. #Leonardo has strengthened its partnership with the United Arab Emirates (#UAE) in the field of #cybersecurity by signing a contract to deliver a comprehensive technological upgrade of the UAE Defence's secure communications network. The programme’s aim is to enhance secure communications and information systems for the UAE's national security, providing cutting-edge protections for strategic applications. The upgrades will significantly bolster network and IT infrastructure security, improving resilience against #cyber and physical threats while safeguarding data and services' availability, authenticity, integrity, and confidentiality. Leonardo will lead the design and modernisation of the secure communications network using state-of-the-art technologies, resulting in an integrated, interoperable system capable of seamless operations and continuous upgrades. A key focus of the project will be the development of advanced encryption techniques to ensure the highest security standards for communications and information handling.
