  • Last but not least, Aung Shan Htay is the third Myanmar student that received the Erasmus MJMD scholarship for this year. He is a structural engineer with over six years of experience in civil engineering, from PC concrete production to structural analysis and design of underground structures in Japan. His curiosity in solid mechanics problems and software development for engineering applications has motivated him to explore an emerging scientific domain, called Computational Mechanics. EU is supporting his advancement in this new area with an EMJMD scholarship for an intensive two-year European Master in Advanced Solid Mechanics where he will be trained in areas of advanced mathematics, computer science, and applied mechanics, and how to combine these disciplines to solve solid mechanics problems. Aung Shan will begin his studies at Université de Lille, and then continue his Masters across several European countries (Belgium, Poland, Greece, Italy). This opportunity will allow him to enrich his academic knowledge and expertise, while giving him the chance to discover different cultures. Are you interested in applying for a scholarship? • International Day of Democracy is a reminder of the importance of leadership. Across all cultures, good leaders are responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of their people by listening to them and governing with fairness and care. • The second student who received the Erasmus MJMD scholarship for this year is Myat Su Mon. Her studies and extensive working experience in the forestry sector have provided her the opportunity to focus on a wide range of global environmental challenges including deforestation, forest degradation, biodiversity loss, environmental policy and governance, and interdisciplinary approaches to managing natural resources. Her interest is to address contemporary challenges in forestry from a perspective of global governance of forests. The EU is supporting her goal to solve such issues through the EMJMD Scholarship for a Master’s Degree in Global Forestry. This Master’s Degree that is offered by a consortium of five universities (Denmark, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy), will provide the chance to Myat Su Mon to become specialized in areas of livelihoods and governance, management and policy, tropical forest ecology, social and environmental responsibility, and agroforestry systems. The EU wishes her the best of luck on her new academic journey from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) to the University of Padua (Italy) and every step in between! • Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) is a joint Masters-level study programme that offers scholarships for students to study at three or more higher education institutions from different European countries to obtain a recognized joint, double, or multiple degree(s). Ei Mon Thant is one of the three Myanmar students who received an EMJMD scholarship this year. Having worked as a trainer and Junior technical advisor for food security and agricultural projects at international organisations in Myanmar, she has developed a passion for helping farmers improve food security and income, by reducing the current impact of climate change, in Myanmar and beyond. The EU is supporting Ei Mon Thant’s ambition to explore diverse communities and cultures, and to expand her understanding of farming practices around the world. Through the EMJMD scholarship she will follow a Master's Degree in Plant Health, where she will learn about disease prevention, pest management, and climate-resilient agriculture! She will be making her first stop at Universitat Politecnica De Valencia (Spain) before continuing her degree at the University of Göttingen (Germany). Together with fellow EMJMD students she also joined us for the pre-departure event in July that was hosted by the European Union Ambassador for the EMJMD departing students. Congratulations to Ei Mon Thant and we wish her the best in making her dreams come true! Are you interested in applying for a scholarship through EMJMD? • As we wrap up the first edition of the MEETup (Myanmar-EU Empowerment), we would like to thank all the participants for their valuable ideas and drive for change! These last six months have given us a unique opportunity to build new networks, work on new projects, and listen and learn from enthusiastic and engaged Myanmar youth. We hope that the workshops, briefings, debates, and informal gatherings have contributed to building new bridges and friendships. The EU in Myanmar looks forward to continuing to support Myanmar youth, through similar programmes. ⭐️ #MEETup Here’s what the youth that participated in MEETup shared about their journey below: “Being a delegate in the MEETup program transformed me into a more knowledgeable and capable youth, equipped with the skills to implement projects and communicate effectively. It provided me with deep insights into the EU and its institutions operating in Myanmar. Additionally, I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with brilliant peers as well as work with EU funded organisations as a volunteer and observer.” “Having a chance to participate in the MEETUp program is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I could see myself as a more responsible, more confident, more brilliant youth after getting exposed to many valuable workshops, activities, and productive sessions organised by EU delegation” #EUinMyanmar #MEETupProgramme #EmpowerTheYouth #YoungActors

  • Did you know that the European Union has an anthem? The final movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony has been the official Anthem of the European Union since 1985. To celebrate the 200th Anniversary of its official presentation, several international European Institutions launched the “Ode2Joy” campaign. Musicians, dancers and artists from around the globe were invited to portray the values represented by the song through their art. Among the submissions received across the world, only seven winners were chosen! The EU in Myanmar is proud to announce that Myanmar organization’s "Artis-Hood" has been selected as one of the winners, who put forward an interpretive dance performance in the streets of Yangon. Our heartfelt congratulations to them! Ode2Joy Challenge is run by a consortium of Centre Européen de Musique, European Students' Association for Cultural Heritage, European Movement International, Europa Nostra, Europa Union Youth Orchestra, Fondation Hippocrène, and their supporting partners.
