East Coast Cluster
Oil and Gas
The East Coast Cluster stands ready to remove 50% of the UK’s industrial cluster CO2 emissions.
About us
The UK needs to use every possible technology to green our economy. It must decarbonise industry to achieve its target of net zero emissions by 2050. And nearly half of carbon emissions from UK industrial clusters come from Britain’s historic engine room: Teesside and the Humber. The East Coast Cluster is now actively bringing together communities, business, industry and academia to deliver the carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure needed to decarbonise this key industrial heartland of the UK. The East Coast Cluster will ensure the UK’s leadership in the energy transition and the emerging global low-carbon and hydrogen market and play a major role in levelling up across the country.

Today, the Northern Endurance Partnership launches its public consultation on the Humber Carbon Capture Pipeline – a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project which will transport CO2 from carbon capture projects in the Humber region to secure offshore storage under the North Sea. The communities living and working in the Humber region can give feedback and comment on the proposals for this project at a series of public events being held in the area between now and mid-August. Today, Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) have announced that they have selected contractors for EPC contracts with a combined value of around £4bn. The selection is a major milestone which would contribute to the UK’s journey towards net zero emissions by 2050. The final award of contracts is subject to the receipt of relevant regulatory clearances and positive Final Investment Decisions (FID) by the projects and UK government, planned for September 2024 or earlier. https://lnkd.in/e9BCGP84

Pleased to announce that Net Zero Teesside Power which aims to be one of the world’s first commercial scale gas-fired power stations with carbon capture, has received development consent from UK Government. This development consent granted by DESNZ includes onshore CO2 gathering and transport infrastructure operated by the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP). The project, enabled by the NEP, includes a CO2 gathering network on Teesside to transport captured CO2 from industrial emitters. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/enYj_SUg

The Humber’s decarbonisation ambitions have today advanced, with confirmation that the Northern Endurance Partnership is now the developer for the end-to-end onshore Humber CO2 pipelines. These pipelines which will link to the Endurance storage site and nearby expansion CO2 stores, enabling emissions reductions from sites across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The East Coast Cluster, enabled by the NEP, stands ready to decarbonise both the Humber and Teesside. The NEP will undertake future consultation and engineering in line with next phase of CCUS cluster sequencing process, to be launched by UK Government from 2024. Congratulations to Drax Group – the Northern Endurance Partnership stands ready to deliver the end-to-end CO2 transportation and storage infrastructure to serve low-carbon projects across the Humber region.
We’re delighted that the UK Government has approved our planning application for #BECCS at Drax Power Station to convert two of our biomass units to the #carbonremovals technology, BECCS. 🌿 BECCS at Drax will play an essential role in helping the UK reach its #netzero targets, as well as protecting energy security and supporting thousands of green jobs and skills. Achieving development consent is a critical milestone for this project and we look forward to getting started. 🌍 ⚡ 👉 Learn more in our press release: https://lnkd.in/eG4DvuBG

The East Coast Cluster is now actively bringing together communities, businesses, and academia to deliver the carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure needed to decarbonise Britain’s historic engine room. The geographically compact nature of Teesside’s industrial cluster; its proximity to ideal offshore CO2 storage sites; and strong public and political support for these industries make the region a cost-effective and efficient location to decarbonise industry, power and kick-start the hydrogen economy using CCUS.
