    https://lnkd.in/e7cikJAv This article, and those who install solar panels in ponds suffer from of carbon tunnel vision. Yes, floating solar especially in ponds and lakes is bad. The increased greenhouse gas emissions is the least of the problem. The emissions are due to the death of all the life underneath those now-oxygen-starved and -overheated organisms that cool the planet and ensure our health. Carbon is the stuff of life, and water too, though both bring strife When we forget what nature knows That all of us need all of those That keep our planet green and blue Including me, including you.     HOW TO STOP DROUGHT AND FLOOD DISASTERS NOT ONLY ON THE IBERIAN PENINSULA. I will try to explain this using the temperature regime and air mass flow on the day of the flood disaster (October 29, 2024), which took place in Valencia, Spain. The sources of temperature maps and air mass flow are from the web portal www.ventusky.com. It did not rain on the Iberian Peninsula all summer. Because the dried and overheated land created a thermal bubble over the peninsula and did not allow any moist, therefore colder atmospheric currents from the sea to enter the interior. Autumn came, the dried land cooled quickly. So the cooled interior began to suck in moist sea air into the interior. On October 29, when the flood hell in Valencia began, the interior of Spain was 7 degrees cooler than the temperature of the Mediterranean Sea. Note the flow of air masses between the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern coast of Spain. The still warm Aragon and Catalonia pushed the air flow further south to Valencia and Castile. The dried and heated Sahara also contributed to this. I recommend noting the western coast of the Iberian Peninsula. At the same time, the land temperature was about 2 degrees Celsius higher, as the sea temperature, so the air masses flowed around the coast of Portugal and not inland. What does this simple analysis of the temperature regime and the flow of air masses imply? Well, simply that if Spain and Portugal do not adopt systemic changes in water policy to stop the drying out of the peninsula, they will face catastrophic droughts and floods in the future. It is realistically possible to achieve that the amount of water that fell on Valencia with a yield of 400 mm in 4 hours falls on 4 times the area and of course with lower precipitation. This can be achieved by ecosystem restoration of the dried-up land in the regions of at least Valencia, Castile, Aragon and Casalonia.     Day 2,583. That’s how long 4ocean PBC has been out at sea, tirelessly removing plastic waste from our oceans. In this video, you’ll see them in action near Jembrana, Indonesia, pulling tons of plastic waste out of our waters. It’s inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time. As someone deeply committed to #sustainability, I can’t help but reflect on the scale of this crisis. Every year, 11 million metric tons of plastic waste enter our oceans, and if we don’t act, this number could nearly triple by 2040 (source: The Pew Charitable Trusts). Plastic doesn’t just pollute—it disrupts ecosystems, harms marine life, and eventually finds its way back into our food chain. But here’s the silver lining: amazing organizations like 4Ocean are proving that solutions exist. From innovating cleanup methods to raising awareness, they’re driving change. The Ocean Cleanup, for instance, is developing systems to tackle ocean gyres, and companies like Patagonia are rethinking product design to reduce microplastics at the source. As individuals and businesses, we have a role to play too. Did you know that transitioning to circular systems—like reusing and recycling—could reduce plastic waste by 80% by 2040?     In a quiet village nestled in the heart of the countryside, there lived a farmer named Amit(Pseudonym) known for his creativity and resourcefulness, Amit was always experimenting with ways to make farming easier and more efficient. One day, while working in his field, he noticed a pile of discarded plastic bottles near a local stream. The sight bothered him—not just because of the pollution, but because he believed every item could have a purpose if used wisely. Amit had been struggling with sowing seeds evenly across his fields. He knew traditional seeders were costly and out of reach for many farmers like him. As he held one of the plastic bottles in his hand, an idea sparked. With a sharp blade and a little imagination, Amit turned the bottle into a simple seed-sowing tool. By customizing the top of the bottle to be adjustable to the sizes of his seeds and attaching a makeshift handle, he created a device that allowed seeds to be dispensed evenly as he walked through his field. Amit began sharing his invention with his neighbors, who were equally impressed by its simplicity and effectiveness. However, Amit’s innovation came with an important message: he wasn’t advocating for the continued use of plastic bottles. Instead, he saw this as a temporary solution to a much bigger problem—plastic waste. “The real goal,” he often said, “is to reduce our reliance on plastic and find sustainable alternatives. Until then, let’s give these discarded items a second chance to serve us.” Amit’s story spread beyond his village, inspiring conversations about creativity, sustainability, and the need to address plastic waste at its source. His innovation became a symbol of how communities could turn challenges into opportunities while staying mindful of their environmental impact. Today, Amit continues to farm, innovate, and advocate for sustainable practices. His journey is a reminder that even small acts of ingenuity can sow the seeds of change, not just in the soil but in the hearts and minds of people. I hope this inspires you.
