I hope everyone takes a moment to learn about this amazing family and all they have done for our community! The Education Fund - Miami and the tens of thousands of public school students we serve in our Food Forests for Schools initiative have benefited greatly from their generosity. With The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation’s support, 75% of students significantly improved their math knowledge, 71% of students increased their science scores, almost 50% improved their eating habits, and now all of our participating schools are engaging students in activities that create protective factors for good mental health. Where will the next generation of farmers and local food customers come from? Today NCAT gives a shout out to the people and organizations who aren't just thinking about this, but who are getting down in the dirt with kids to give them an understanding of food and agriculture. We're honored to work with organizations like FoodCorps, which got its start under the NCAT umbrella and now places service members in schools and communities in 18 states to provide kids with nourishing meals, food education, and culturally affirming experiences with food. We're also pleased to have collaborated with EarthDance Organic Farm School, which provides farm and garden-based education for people of all ages, especially youth. And we're happy to have featured the work of The Education Fund - Miami in one of our publications. The Education Fund's “Food Forests for Schools” program has installed school garden “eco labs” in 51 of Miami-Dade County's elementary schools, 26 of which have evolved into perennial food forests.
