Meet Derek Wallace, Director of Development at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami! What do you love most about Miami? "There’s so much to love, but I’d say the incredible access to world-class food, culture, and community tops the list. From exceptional cuisine to top-tier performing arts, this city offers something for everyone, every single day of the week." How do you like to spend your weekends? "Music plays a significant role in my life, so on weekends, you’ll often find me at live concerts, supporting the organizations that keep our city vibrant. When I’m not at a concert, I love spending time with friends and family, exploring the incredible arts and culture our city has to offer." Can you share something about yourself that would surprise most people? "I’ve been singing since I was five years old and have performed on stage in musicals and opera. While I don’t perform as much these days, you can always catch me singing in the car!" What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? "One of my favorite college professors once told us, “Flexibility is your middle name.” Embracing flexibility and adaptability has been essential to my growth and success, and that advice continues to guide me every day." What do you enjoy most about working for Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami? "Hearing the stories of our matches and witnessing their success firsthand is truly inspiring. Whether it’s a Little now playing professional football in the NFL or another who has earned a full scholarship and is thriving at a Fortune 500 company, these stories highlight the profound impact we’re making in the community. Our BBBS Littles are extraordinary, and seeing their growth and achievements motivates me every day to connect with more partners who can help us reach even more youth and amplify that impact."

Meet Casey Crist, SVP, Regional Vice President at TD Bank and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami Board Member! What do you love most about Miami? "The weather is an obvious one! After growing up in New Jersey and enduring the brutal winter months, being able to go to the beach, enjoy the water, and participate in outdoor activities year-round feels like a dream come true. But what I truly love is the diversity this city embodies. I’ve grown so much personally by being exposed to so many different cultures and learning to see the world from a variety of perspectives." What's the best piece of advice you've ever received? "Coincidentally, the best advice I’ve received is to seek out mentors and surround myself with people who will support and challenge me to reach my goals. The saying is true—it truly takes a village. Having a support system for guidance and the push to step out of my comfort zone and discover my true potential has been a catalyst for my growth, both personally and professionally." What's been the most rewarding part of serving on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami board? "The most rewarding part is witnessing the impact we make on so many lives by pairing individuals with mentors. I’ve had (and continue to have) numerous mentors who have supported, challenged, and shaped me into who I am today. This makes the work of this organization and its cause something I’m deeply passionate about. It’s incredible to see the numerous success stories where one individual can profoundly impact the trajectory of someone’s life, and we witness this time and again through the matches made by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami. Even more rewarding is that the impact goes both ways—the Bigs not only influence the Littles’ lives but are also enriched by the Littles, who open their eyes to new perspectives. Joining the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami board and establishing the School-to-Work Program at TD Bank, where I have the privilege of serving as a Big alongside 29 of my colleagues, was hands down the best decision I made last year, both personally and professionally."
