"Last summer, we argued that allowing communities to charge a transfer fee on high-end home sales in order to fund affordable housing efforts is in the best interests of the business community. The following fall, Gov. Maura Healey included a measure in her $4 billion housing bill that would allow municipalities to fund affordable housing development by collecting a fee of between 0.5% and 2% on the sales of the homes that exceed $1 million. Another example of why we need more social housing not REITS buying up thousands of multifamily housing units.
