What is South Korea's new unification policy? During a speech on August 15, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol announced a new policy approach for “freedom-based unification” strategy, which means South Korea will "increase the flow of reliable information to the North Korean people," says Bush Institute Research Fellow Joseph Kim. "The aim of doing so is to provide North Koreans with an alternative to Pyongyang’s propaganda about the outside world and spark a greater desire for freedom and democracy through unification with the South." In a recent article, Jessica Ludwig, Director of Global Policy at the Bush Institute analyzes the aftermath of Venezuela’s elections, one where hope for democracy remains. "The Venezuelan people who turned out to vote deserve to be recognized as the heroes of the story still playing out, as the country and the international community wait for #Maduro to recognize his own defeat," says Ludwig. At the recently concluded Olympic Games in Paris, spectators were once again reminded that geopolitics and sports often go hand in hand. For Taiwanese athletes, this again meant the ritual humiliation of competing under the fictional name of “Chinese Taipei.” Taiwanese Olympians are forced to compete under a fictional flag and national anthem and are subjected to the additional indignity of the organizers unceremoniously confiscating any Taiwan-branded items in the stands. This sad state of affairs only provided fuel to the pro-People’s Republic of China (PRC) propagandists and their fellow travelers [...] Continue reading: https://lnkd.in/dqc6j5nC

"Gen Z and millennials already have a very different, skeptical, and interactive approach to the news than previous generations. Rather than trusting legacy media, they often follow influencers who, like them, are in the early years of their careers. These younger content consumers need to consider distinctions between journalism and entertainment as they critically examine the backgrounds of the influencers and verify information in the posts they follow." — Margot Habiby, Deputy Director of Communications at the Bush Institute Read more about brand building and journalists: https://lnkd.in/d4_6J3_d
