We invest in bold ideas, helping grassroots organizations scale and deepen their impact to reach more children in need.
About us
Global Fund for Children partners to build a world where all children and youth enjoy equal resources and opportunities in society and live free from violence, discrimination, and exploitation. We do this by investing in innovative, grassroots organizations that provide children and youth with the resources to reach their full potential and advance their rights worldwide. In the fight for children’s rights, too many great ideas go unheard and unfunded. Global Fund for Children is here to change that. We discover grassroots organizations pursuing bold ideas, and provide the funding, coaching, and connections to give those ideas a chance to work. We take smart risks that others don’t, walking alongside our partners to help them develop and succeed, so that, together, we can build a future where all children and youth are safe, strong, and valued.

A delight to see Global Fund for Children #PEAK (Partnerships to Educate All Kids) initiative Zambian partners constantly collaborating to advance peer exchanges, foster knowledge sharing, and drive collective impact in education.
To follow up on the peer learning visit we had at Amos Youth Centre in Shikoswe, Kafue, The Paideia Project collaborated with Na Tubelenge Children’s Library again to organize a peer learning visit for Amos Youth Centre, who traveled all the way from Shikoswe, Kafue, to Lusaka, to learn more about the impact of our work in our communities. This gave us the opportunity to present our learnings from our partnership with Jacaranda Secondary School and how the learning-through-play model informs our design process when creating our eco-friendly interactive visual aid (IVA) models. #peerlearning #communityengagement #learningthroughplay #interactivelearning #ecofriendly

When girls are excluded from decision-making spaces, it results in policies that don’t reflect girls. Simple as that. Last weekend, girls gathered in protest of the Summit of the Future held by the United Nations to tell leaders exactly what they want for their future. What they said at mala.la/3TJTKOy.

We are really excited to welcome you all to our abode at Tostan!! I am personally excited to create space for discussions around the depth and breadth of intergenerational learning and healing, shifting funding paradigms and donor (re)learning in the complex waters of service and social change. Art as therapy, funding realities for young (and not so young) innovative social change catalytic endeavors, the de(re)construction of the donor learning agenda in a localized framework, impactful collaboration within a scarcity based competitive environment, the art of communication...These are some of the topics we will not only discuss but put into collective action & learning. Our goal this year is not only to share, but also to provide tangible, technical, functional and relational tools for resilience (mental, physical, individual, community and organizational) And we could not have dreamt it without our partners, including, but not limited to, The Wellbeing Project, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, YIELD Hub, Global Fund for Children, Vitol Foundation, Partenariat de Ouagadougou Grand Challenges Canada Tostan's women prison project So welcome to our young (and not so young) guests, agents of change, challenge and hope! We can't wait to see you! Wear comfortable shoes, we dance a lot at Tostan. :-)

What I love most about working with Global Fund for Children is the invaluable opportunity to learn and grow alongside our local partner organizations. During the month of August, we took significant strides in expanding our knowledge of Tostan’s community empowerment program, deepening our understanding of why it's essential to rethink how we engage with communities to create sustainable change. One of the most important insights is the need to shift away from imposing external solutions and instead focus on fostering community-led approaches. When communities take ownership of their development, the outcomes are more meaningful and enduring. Our role is to support, facilitate, and provide the resources necessary for these discussions, but the direction must come from within. We also learned that social norms—particularly those that have been ingrained for generations such as female genital cutting—cannot be dismantled quickly or by a select few. Social practices are embedded in the fabric of everyday life, upheld by traditions, cultural beliefs, and community structures. Therefore, change must be seen as a collective and gradual journey rather than a one-time event. Lasting transformation requires patience, consistent engagement, and open dialogue, where all community members including women, men, children and youth with intersecting identities are empowered to participate. This allows for a reflective process where communities assess their own needs and determine the best course of action, leading to deeper and more sustainable shifts in behavior and attitudes. GFC is incredibly grateful to Tostan for sharing its holistic, community-led model, which emphasizes human dignity, social cohesion, and the power of grassroots participation. Tostan’s approach serves as a powerful reminder that true empowerment comes from within the community, and sustainable change is achieved when individuals feel respected, heard, and involved in shaping their own futures. #Tostan #communityleddevelopment

What if I told you that the key to #transforming #philanthropy was #turning #inwards? This was the title of my session on the panel at the Lord mayor's #philanthropy colloquy this morning with Bayes Business School. I love being able to actually be myself in these spaces and say what I think (rather than a polished version of what I think I am expected to say in a room full of teacups and saucers (I still don't understand the need for saucers) and suits). Here are some of the key points I touched upon: 🚀 Turning inwards means asking #difficult #questions. What truly #motivates me in my #philanthropy? What #values do I practise? How much of my #identity is linked to my #wealth? What #biases do I hold? 🚀 Why should we turn inwards? 👉 It's only by this hard work of #self #reflection that we can see if we might inadvertently be actually #perpetuating some of the #problems we are trying to change in our philanthropy. #big problems such as #injustice #inequality # poverty. 👉 It's only by turning inwards that we can #deepen our connection with #ourselves and #others. 🚀 As #funders we have to be careful of using our #own #stories and experiences as a lens for #funding 🚀 To make turning inwards #powerful it has to be combined with #action. For us that looks like giving with #trust #unrestricted funding, building deep #partnerships and #wellbeing support. 🚀 At The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)'s Marshall Institute we are building a community of philanthropists to #challenge each other but also ourselves and build #trust along the way. There is so much #fear and #polarisation in our world today that finding a #safe and #sell #free space for #learning and #debate is #powerful 🚀 When we #break #down the #barriers in ourselves, we are better able to #tackle the #barriers in our #world. Loved hearing from Fozia Irfan OBE about moving from transactional to transformative philanthropy, from James Banks re the collaborative work of London Funders, from Lani Martin about how they are engaging and igniting small philanthropy to create outsized impact for small charities, and all the other panellists Alex Stephany Sayeh Ghanbari ps. I googled the need for saucers and they actually have many uses including preventing spillages and protecting surfaces (and of course balancing a biscuit) ☕🍪 Dasra Global Fund for Children Women Moving Millions Forward Global Sapphira Goradia Shaw

“When I was younger, they restricted me, and I even got beaten for playing,” said Thone Darin Han, 23. “I used to be jealous of my brother. My parents never stopped him from playing because he’s a boy.” At Global Fund for Children, we believe in the power of sport to transform lives and foster resilience. This incredible story from The New York Times highlights the determination and strength of #refugee #women in #Thailand, many of whom have fled the violence and political instability in #Myanmar. We are proud to support community-based organizations like PlayOnside, who is featured in this article, which uses #soccer not just as a game, but as a vehicle for power, healing, and community building for these remarkable women. Through sport, they are reclaiming their agency, building self-confidence, and forging strong bonds with their peers, all while #advocating for their right to live with dignity. 👏 Join us in celebrating the strength of refugee women and the community-based organizations making a difference every day.
