Most climate accounting protocols out there only include the primary greenhouse gases. The GHR protocol is the only approach that includes all drivers of climate change - not just carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, but also super pollutants, albedo, and more. ➡ For businesses and cities, the protocol surfaces valuable data that's critical to inform mitigation investments and climate action plans. Learn more from leading US climate scientist, Dr. Drew Shindell. Dr. Shindell is the Nicholas Professor of Earth Sciences at Duke University, a long-time IPCC Contributor, and chair of Climate & Clean Air Coalition's review panel. About us
The Global Heat Reduction Initiative (GHR) by SCS Global Services catalyzes efforts to drive down excess heat trapped in the atmosphere in the crucial near-term. We provide full climate accounting, including CO2 and climate super pollutants such as methane, N2O, black carbon, and tropospheric ozone. Through our climate registry, organizational footprinting and advisory services, GHR enables companies to make verified claims not only against their net-zero commitments but also to global heat reduction.

At GHR, we’re keeping a close eye on the climate super pollutant developments during the UN climate negotiations at COP29 Azerbaijan. This session called "The Other Half of Warming: Climate Super Pollutants" summarizes some of the key developments so far: ➡️ Richard Duke from the US Department of State emphasized that focusing on climate super pollutants was a key gap in our climate policy, that is now being addressed so we can hit the "climate emergency brake" on warming in the near-term. ➡️ David Kanter from New York University shared some of the key findings of the Global Nitrous Oxide Assessment that was released this week, emphasizing that we have no hope of keeping within 1.5 degrees if we don’t take action on N2O - https://lnkd.in/eNdJ5pHE ➡️ Durwood Zaelke of Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD) highlighted the success of the Montreal Protocol to address refrigerants that harm the ozone and the climate, and encouraged its use to address methane and N2O. ➡️ Martina Otto of Climate & Clean Air Coalition shared new research on low-level ozone, its health and climate dangers, and the importance of addressing ozone precursors like VOCs, NOX and methane. #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan We Don't Have Time

🔉Your business can help reduce extreme heat! Corporations, cities, NGOs, and institutions can all play a role in reducing extreme heat. How? Now: Reduce super pollutants, which have high GWP and near-term impact, by purchasing mitigation credits and including all climate drivers in your emissions footprint. By 2050: Reduce and remove carbon dioxide. Want to learn more about how your business can make an impact on extreme heat? 💡 All about albedo! Albedo is Earth's reflectivity - it's how much energy Earth reflects back to space. And every surface has its own albedo value. For example, snow and ice (light surfaces) have high albedo, and forests and oceans (dark surfaces) have low albedo. As global warming increases, lighter colored surfaces like ice and snow melt, which exposes darker colored surfaces like rock or soil. 🔁These darker surfaces then absorb heat, causing more snow and ice to melt. Preserving and protecting Earth's albedo is key to slowing global warming. ➡️ Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gZexngzV #climateaction #globalwarming #sustainability #ourplanetourhome

Last week our heat reduction team and SCS Global Services attended #VERGE24! It was an extraordinary week full of connecting with inspiring people, spreading awareness about super pollutants and GHR, and learning about the latest in climate. A couple of highlights: ⭐ During “The Latest in Carbon Markets” with AlliedOffsets, High Tide Foundation, Calyx Global and IETA, Donna Lee from Calyx Global said “some of the easiest [carbon offsets] to buy are super pollutants. That’s the easy button.” She added on that integrity and SDG benefits are also crucial to look out for. ⭐We attended “The Future of Refrigerants” with Danielle Wright from the North American Sustainable Refrigeration Council (NASRC), Tristam Coffin from effecterra, and Stephen (Steve) Kujak from Trane Technologies, and gained many insights around climate investment effectiveness and phasing down HFCs. Danielle said that tackling HFCs is “buying us more time. They are short-lived climate pollutants meaning they are a big problem, but we can see the impacts TODAY.” ⭐In “Driving the Road Ahead: Equitable Solutions for Zero-Emission Freight” hosted by Kevin George Miller from the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, a key theme that came up was the lack of data and communications around the public health benefits for communities and drivers switching to cleaner fuel trucks. ⭐Olya Irzak from Frost Methane Labs hosted a roundtable including several super pollutant mitigation projects like Recoolit and Tradewater who all felt that the story of their near-term climate impact needs to be better understood. ⭐Lots of smart people and companies are working on inventive climate solutions, but one conundrum highlighted by the session “Sustainable Data Centers in the AI Era,” hosted by Jill Wyant from Madison Air, is how AI’s massive energy demands threaten to outpace those solutions. The answer? Tackle climate super pollutants now and slow global warming faster. We’re feeling energized and ready to forge ahead to slow global warming, faster! #climateaction #climatesolutions #superpollutants

🙌 That’s a wrap on our panel at #VERGE24! This week during our panel “Tackling Super Pollutants on the Path to Net Zero,” we heard from four inspiring speakers: - Philip Duffy shared about the impact of climate super pollutants and why we should care, as well as the importance of mitigating both carbon dioxide and super pollutants. - Mark Jacobson talked about the science of black carbon and the impact on human health. Did you know that snow covered with black carbon (soot) particles melts faster than snow not covered with black carbon? - Kiff Gallagher spoke about the importance of measuring all climate drivers, not just carbon dioxide but also super pollutants, over any time frame. This additional data can help businesses make more informed investment decisions and address risk. - Ning Jeng shared about the rise in AC usage, existing policies in place to tackle refrigerants, and how his company Recoolit is helping to recover and destroy refrigerants. Thank you to our panelists, as well as Jennifer N. for moderating! #climateaction #climatesolutions #globalwarming #superpollutants

Last week, members of our heat reduction team were in both Singapore and New Delhi attending the Asia Carbon Summit and Asia Climate Summit! Sajini Patel, GHR Methodology Developer, said the Asia Climate Summit “was not only a stage for fostering meaningful collaborations but also a testament to the ambitious strides our sector is making toward a resilient, climate-secure world.” Esther Soh, GHR Senior Growth Manger, attended the Asia Carbon Summit and brought back the following insights: ⭐ Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, emphasized the necessity of a strong data infrastructure, like the Climate Action Data Trust, to enhance trust in the mitigation value chain. ⭐Kyle Harrison from BloombergNEF shared about the rising demand for VCM credits, which increased by 26% annually from 2016-2021. Sectors like NBS and regenerative agriculture are critical, not only for emissions reductions but also for broader environmental co-benefits. ⭐Hard-to-abate sectors like aviation face significant hurdles in transitioning to sustainable fuels. Zita Schellekens from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines spoke about the high cost and low supply of SAF, while Daniel Ng from Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore brought up the question on how to distribute the cost burden incurred from using SAF between airlines and their customers. Next up, our team is headed to San Jose, California to attend #VERGE24 this week – we'll have a panel tomorrow, October 29, and an exhibiting booth. See you there!
