Happy Fourth of July from Goodwill of Greater Detroit! Wishing you a day filled with celebration and joy.

We’re excited to share that Bank of America recently selected Goodwill of Greater Detroit as a recipient of one of its #BofAGrants! We are grateful for our continued partnership with Bank of America to build pathways to independence through personal development and the power of work.   With Bank of America’s partnership, we can help more individuals in metro Detroit gain and retain employment, develop essential skills and lead productive lives through our one-stop career centers, employment services, work readiness programs and occupational training.   In 2023, Goodwill of Greater Detroit provided first-in-class workforce development to over 17,000 individuals, training and placing 2,200 individuals into competitive employment with an average wage of $18/hour and a 92% job retention rate. Additionally, we provided industry-recognized certifications to 60 individuals, GED preparation to 85 individuals and on-the-job training to over 500 individuals.   Looking forward, this grant will support general operations and enhance our training offerings, including our Skilled Trades Academy and our newly launched Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) technician training program.   A special thank you to Bank of America. We are excited to announce the graduation of the inaugural class of our Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) technician training program at Goodwill of Greater Detroit!   This program, in partnership with Goodwill Industries International, Accenture, ChargerHelp! and General Motors, with local support from Ballmer Group and Norfolk Southern, is a groundbreaking step in advancing clean tech and green transportation.   The four-week, earn and learn program equips participants with the skills to maintain and repair electric vehicle infrastructure, opening doors to high-demand careers and fostering economic mobility in southeast Michigan.   The EVSE technician training is part of Goodwill Industries International’s broader Clean Tech Accelerator™, designed to provide workforce training for the most in-demand, entry-level clean energy jobs. Goodwill of Greater Detroit is one of only four Goodwill organizations across the country selected to participate in this innovative program.   Congratulations to our incredible graduates! Pedal power! We are thrilled to congratulate our dedicated employees at Goodwill’s Green Works who recently received new bikes through the Bikes 4 Employees (B4E) program! B4E, a fantastic initiative by the Detroit Greenways Coalition, is all about providing Detroiters with high-quality bicycles to enhance their transportation options, improve financial well-being and boost physical and mental health. This year, 72 bikes were distributed to deserving individuals, selected from over 600 applicants. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Councilman Scott Benson and Tim Springer, B4E program manager, for their incredible leadership and dedication to making this initiative a success. Unveiling opportunities! Charge up your career at Goodwill of Greater Detroit’s Skilled Trades Academy! We are excited to announce that we now offer free Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment technician training. Plug into hands-on training with EV charging stations, learning electrical energy fundamentals, the basics of electric vehicles and batteries, and EVSE charging standards and receive industry-recognized credentials and job placement support. We also help with wrap around services like childcare, transportation, and mentoring to ensure your success during and after training. Spaces are filling fast! We are proud to share the success of our recent donation drive, made possible through a generous collaboration with the Detroit Police Department! Their dedication to serving the community has been instrumental in making this initiative a success. The sale of these items will go toward providing free programs and services to individuals with employment barriers, including those living with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Together, we collected over 4,000 pounds of gently used household items that will directly benefit individuals and families in need across metro-Detroit. A heartfelt thank you to the Detroit Police Department for their ongoing partnership and commitment to making a difference in our community!

Empowering futures: We are pleased to announce that Goodwill of Greater Detroit has received a grant of $75,000 from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. This funding will support our digital inclusion and technology workforce development program for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Wayne County. We extend our sincere thanks to the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan for their generous support. This grant will play a crucial role in advancing our mission of building pathways to independence through personal development and the power of work. With this funding, we will continue to empower individuals with disabilities to acquire essential digital skills, enhancing their access to employment opportunities and fostering greater inclusion in the workforce.
